Charlotte Agg

Digital Marketing Executive

My real passion for travelling was sparked at the end of school for me, when I decided to completely change my university plans and defer a year so I could take time to travel and see the world. I took a gap year in 2017 where I travelled to incredible countries like Sri Lanka, Cambodia, Vietnam, Thailand, and New Zealand.

The experience was utterly life changing for me. When I came home, after three years of studying hard, I graduated from the University of Hull in 2020 with a First-Class Psychology degree and a newly developed passion for marketing. Since then, I have dedicated my post university life to developing my career in this area.

That’s how I find myself here, in this amazing role as a Digital Marketing Executive for ethical travel companies! Being part of the Pure Breaks has allowed me to hugely develop my practical digital marketing skills, such as working with WordPress and SEO, in a short amount of time, whilst working on projects and brands that share my passion for sustainable travel.

Have you ever gotten lost while travelling?

I’m not actually sure I can think of a single trip I’ve taken where I haven’t ended up seriously lost at some point. It’s not that I have a terrible sense of direction; it’s more that I have an unquenchable sense of curiosity and adventure! More than once I have found myself utterly lost after I’ve followed my nose through a labyrinth of market stalls to discover some amazing local foods. It never feels like I’m truly lost though. It’s only ever felt like an addition to the adventure, and I’ve always found my way back…so far!

What’s the best piece of travel advice you have ever received?

Look. After. Your. Feet. This advice was given to me by a fellow backpacker I met in Sri Lanka during my first week of travelling on my gap year. At the time, I didn’t particularly think much about this comment. However, after travelling non-stop for three months with nothing but a pair of flip-flops and some very sorry looking duct-taped hiking boots that had definitely seen better days, I would constantly find that advice ringing in my ears as I tried to patch up my battered and bruised feet. Now, whenever I travel, a good pair of comfy shoes is always at the top of my packing list!
