Superior Rooms

These inviting, cosy rooms are perfect for single travellers or for accompanying children. Each boasts a plush king-size or twin beds with luxury linens plus a writing desk and a marble bathroom.

Deluxe Rooms

The Deluxe Rooms have an understated style that defines in sumptuous rooms located in the main building and across the beautiful grounds. Light, airy Deluxe Rooms feature a sitting area, perfect for unwinding, and several include a balcony. All have an inviting marble en-suite bathroom, writing desk and king-size or twin beds.

Suites

Let the Cape Town sunshine into your life. All suites, spread across the hotel’s seven wings, feature generous windows overlooking the gardens or Table Mountain and many have a beautiful balcony. Choose from Junior Suites and extra-spacious Deluxe Junior Suites, both with elegant sitting areas; Studio Suites with an open plan design and Deluxe Studio Suites that are perfect for families. One-Bedroom Suites are found in the Main Building, Green Park, Helmsley, Hof Villa and Taunton House areas of the hotel.

They offer a true taste of grand living. Each boasts a separate bedroom, large lounge and dining area with Nespresso coffee machines. Some have balconies or a guest cloakroom. Each is luxuriously appointed and individually designed, and some enjoy a walk-in dressing room. Some of these suites have a kitchenette and a wet bar, while all feature marble bathrooms with a walk-in dressing room.

Accessible Suites

Guests with restricted mobility may find getting around easier in two elegant, purpose-built, fully accessible Junior Suites. Bathrooms benefit from wider doors, a lower sink, a bath with handrails and an open-access shower.

Cottages Suites

A row of eight restored, historic cottages, adjacent to the secluded pool, make up the Garden Cottage Suites. A luxurious home away from home, each cottage sits behind a scented rose garden, enclosed by a picket fence, ensuring a haven of peace and privacy. The ideal romantic hideaway for honeymooners and couples. In Deluxe Garden Cottages features include separate living and dining areas, wet bars, mini-libraries and enclosed patios.

Family Honeysuckle Cottage

For families and small groups seeking the tranquil cottage experience, we’ve recently converted two neighbouring cottages into a delightful two-bedroom suite. Decorated by interior designer Graham Viney, this lavish residence has a light, pretty, classic design with contemporary striped carpets in the bedrooms, printed linen curtains inspired by an 18th-century Indian fabric and glamorous marble bathrooms. In addition, make yourself at home with the small kitchen kitted out with basic utensils.

Presidential Suite

The luxurious Presidential Suite encompasses a stylish marbled entrance hall, a private dining room, master bedroom with en-suite bathroom and a large lounge leading onto a balcony with stunning views of Table Mountain. There is also a wet bar, complete with a microwave, stove, sink and kitchen utensils.

Oasis Restaurant

The restaurant offers an extensive Mediterranean-inspired buffet as well as an à la carte menu with an impressive selection of grilled meats and roasted line fish. Guests can also look forward to daily specials harvested from local markets. The fresh and colourful buffet includes a wide range of seasonal salads, home cured and home smoked charcuterie, fresh seafood and shellfish platters and a variety of South African cheeses. All sauces, tapenades and pates are made in-house and the exceptional breads are baked in The Nellie’s kitchens. The selection of hot dishes changes daily and could include anything from Roast Beef with assorted baby root vegetable to Cape Malay Chicken Curry.

Sunday lunches are even more resplendent with the addition of a carvery station serving roast beef sirloin, leg of lamb, Beef Wellington, slow cooked slated beef, chicken curry and grilled line fish, as well as a magnificent selection of vegetable dishes. The Bistro’s relaxed atmosphere lends itself perfectly to a warm and welcoming sunny bite. Complemented by a well thought out wine and cocktail list, and an inviting terrace overlooking the swimming pool. Kindly note that Oasis Bistro is a seasonal restaurant, and closes for lunch during Winter.

The Lounge

Morning, Afternoon and Evening Tea and light lunches are served daily in The Lounge. Afternoon Tea at the hotel is a true institution. Make sure your trip to Cape Town is complete and experience the best afternoon tea Cape Town has to offer. Enjoy delicate finger sandwiches filled with rare roast beef and rocket, smoked salmon, egg mayonnaise or cucumber. Follow with a delectable dark chocolate cake, lemon meringue and freshly baked scones with clotted cream and preserves. Adding a special local flavour is a typical South African milk tart, called “melktert” in Afrikaans.

During the winter months you can also enjoy a selection of warm treats. Expect mushroom empanadas, tomato tarts and chicken pies. The signature Mount Nelson Tea has been expertly blended from six teas: Darjeeling, Kenya, Assam, Keemun, Yunnan, Ceylon, and rose petals from our garden. In addition, we offer an array of leaf and flowering teas. Morning, Afternoon and Evening Tea are served in the lounge, on the terrace or around the garden fountain.

Listen to the industrious sounds of chopping, stirring and sizzling. Breathe in the aromas of succulent meats and rich sauces. Feel the creative energy as you witness Chef Rudi and his talented team in full-throttle action. It’s all about interacting: talk to the chefs about their specialities, discover stories behind the recipes and the local, seasonal ingredients. Wander into the kitchen to observe delicacies being prepared, even stir a pan or two if you fancy. Join our chefs on this authentic journey, each one different from the last. Lord Nelson Restaurant

Soak up the atmosphere of our timeless dining room while savouring much-loved classics and impeccable service. The elegant, wood-panelled space dates from the hotel’s inauguration in 1899. It was here that, in 1994, President Nelson Mandela welcomed the world’s leaders for the first World Economic Forum ever to be held on African soil. Admire the minstrels’ gallery and the pressed ceilings depicting the history of the British Empire’s South African colonies. Browse a menu of enduring favourites with a contemporary twist, such as Beef Wellington and Crêpes Suzette, served with flair by smartly uniformed staff. Ideal for special occasions or simply to experience the unique old-world charm of this storied dining room.

Global Sustainable Approaches

Belmond aim to tread lightly and indeed make a positive contribution to the many destinations where we operate. Belmond is strongly aware of its responsibility towards natural resources and the environment, especially at locations close to World Heritage Sites.

All hotels, trains and river cruises run initiatives to support the places and people that surround them. As part of the hotel group’s “Think Global, Act Local” approach they:

  • Purchase as much food as possible from sustainable sources
  • Run and support educational programmes
  • Follow sustainable practices to reduce the impact of operations on the environment and to ensure energy efficiency
  • Among many initiatives, the food and beverage operations of the majority of Belmond’s hotels, trains and river cruises are assessed by the UK-based Sustainable Restaurant Association. Belmond is the first global luxury hospitality brand to have undertaken this ongoing third party testing.

Belmond welcome guests of all ages at our hotel. They’ll find plenty to occupy them at the children’s club, our supervised entertainment area near Librisa Spa offering games, books, a computer, free internet access, DVDs, PlayStations and Xboxes. Up to the age of 12, children sharing a room with their parents enjoy complimentary beds. Extra beads are available for larger families on request at an additional charge, which includes breakfast daily at the hotel restaurant. Additional cots are available for families with babies and young children.
