Cleopatra Mountain Farmhouse, South Africa

Cleopatra Mountain Farmhouse is located close to the border of the Maloti-Drakensberg Park – in the foothills of the Drakensberg Mountains – in the heart of the KwaZulu-Natal province in South Africa. Known as the ‘garden province’, KwaZulu is home to the Drakensberg mountain range, which is the highest mountain range in Southern Africa and was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2000. Many species of animals can be seen wandering the dense foothills of the mountains, most noticeably the Eland – which is a giant antelope – as well as Mountain Reedbucks, Jackals, Genets, Civets, and Vervet Monkeys. The rolling hills and open bushveld are covered in wildflowers, as well as areas of Montane Forest and Mistbelt Forest.

Guests can access Cleopatra Mountain Farmhouse by flying to Johannesburg International Airport, then driving to the farmhouse. Guests own transport is recommended.

The cottages are set a slight distance away from the other suites allowing them to feel more secluded and private. Guests of both cottages can while away time gazing over the view of the wetlands, keeping an eye out for wading birds. Both cottages also come with a separate lounge area and fireplace, where guests can cosy up around the crackling fire on those colder evenings.

With two Executive Cottages to choose from, guests can stay in The Swedish Naturalist Room which is decorated in soft hues of red and blue, or The Cowboy Room, which is decorated with trinkets from the Wild West.
