Preskil Island Resort, Mahebourg, Mauritius

Mahébourg is considered one of the main towns of South-Eastern Mauritius. A genuine fishing town, the low tourist density means the charm of the town is authentic and undisturbed and local markets with fresh local foods and handmade goods dot the town. Hidden gems of this part of Mauritius include the two beaches of Pointe D’Ensy and Blue Bay. Miles of fine white sand leads to warm and clear turquoise waters, which lure guests to the shallows and are filled with 72 species of tropical fish such as parrotfish, trumpetfish, clownfish, and the occasional sea turtles.

Guests can access Preskil Island Resort by flying into Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam Airport and then travelling by car to the resort. It is an approximately 16 minute drive.

Superior Rooms

The Superior Rooms at Preskil Island Resort are spacious and bright, with large sliding doors sitting at one end of the room which open on to a private decking area with views over the sparkling azure sea and endless horizon. These rooms can be configured for families and can sleep up to 4 people. A large king size bed sits in the centre of the room, covered in crips white bed linen, with white painted walls and polished stone floors making the space feel bright and airy, with a coral mural painted behind the flat-screen television.

These rooms have either air conditioning or ceiling fans, to keep guests cool at night, and feature wicker chairs and light shades, creating a beach theme. Guests who are on the ground floor will have direct access to the beach, finding themselves on the fine sand less than 2 minutes after they’ve left their room. Ensuite bathrooms include a walk in shower and a deep standalone bathtub as well as double basins.

Family Garden Rooms

The family garden rooms are located on the ground and first floors of the resorts family area and consist of two separate rooms and a private bathroom. Decorated in the same style as the superior rooms, the beds and large and comfortable, covered in crisp white linen and turquoise scatter cushions and bed runners. A unique coral mural is painted on the wall behind the television and helps to solidify the beach theme of the room.

Feature wicker furniture is dotted around the room, as well as a large full length mirror. The room is air conditioned, meaning guests relax in comfort in their rooms, and all family garden rooms come with their private terrace or balcony areas, perfect for unwinding on after a long day, with a gorgeous view of the luscious gardens.

Deluxe Rooms

The deluxe rooms at Preskil Island Resort can accommodate couples and families alike. All are decorated with plain white walls and polished stone floors which make the room feel large and spacious, and bright natural light fills the room, reflecting off the pale walls, through wide windows. Large, comfortable beds sit in the centre of the rooms, with white bedding and turquoise features, and soft hanging curtains hung by the windows.

All rooms have air conditioning so guests can sleep comfortable in the hot months, and all rooms also have their own private bathrooms. These rooms come with exceptional sea views, either from a private balcony or private decking area, where guests can relax in the evening, gazing over the never ending glistening sea.

Prestige Rooms

The prestige rooms are spacious and bright. White walls, polished stone floor tiles, and wooden and wicker features keep the room feeling bright with a theme of beach running throughout. This theme can also be seen in the unique and colourful red coral mural which sits opposite the bed. This room is perfect for a family as it can accommodate up to 3 adults and 1 child.

The main bed is a large double, and sits in the centre of the room covered in crisp bed linen, with a large ceiling fan above, to keep guests cool during the night. An open plan bathroom ha wicker privacy screens, double basins, a large shower and a deep standalone bathtub. The room is filled with natural light and fresh breezes through the sliding doors at the end of the room, which open out onto a private terrace area where guests can unwind and gaze over the glistening turquoise lagoon.

Junior Suites

The junior suites are on the first floor, and can accommodate up to 3 adults and 1 child. With high wooden vaulted ceilings and wicker furniture and features, this room has a beachy atmosphere to it, with the bedding, cushions and walls all being light tones to reflect the light around the room. A large double bed sits in the centre of the room, covered in crisp bed linen and comfortable cushions.

The room is open plan, with a bathroom sitting behind the bed and optional wicker blinds to pull down for privacy. A separate bath and shower is included in the bathroom. The balcony offers guests the perfect viewpoint to stare out at the azure Indian Ocean and immerse themselves in their beautiful surroundings.

Rendez-vous Restaurant

Guests can start their day in the Rendez-vous restaurant, with large sliding doors leading out to the poolside, guests can sit in the fresh air, or inside, under the large exposed thatch ceiling. Here, breakfast is served as a buffet, with fresh and local food being used to create explosions of colour and taste with food inspired from cuisines around the world.

1810 Beach Restaurant

Under a large thatch roof, but with open sides, 1810 Beach Restaurant offers classic Mauritian dishes with a view of the stunning Mauritian beach. Dine at a table on the beach, and feel the sand in between your toes as you feast on seafood dishes made freshly with local seafood.

Mosaïc Restaurant

Dine in Mosaïc Restaurant for an ambient evening spent feasting on Mediterranean and Mauritian inspired dishes. Made with fresh fruits and vegetables and created with love and skill by the chefs, these meals are delicious and memorable.

Activities on the Water

There are a variety of water activities to enjoy from Preskil Island Resort. With something for everyone, you can take to the water on a paddle board or pedal boat, immersing yourself in your surroundings and taking in the stunning views of the island whilst keeping active. If exploring in the water as opposed to on the water is how you want to spend your day, then you can enjoy a spot of snorkelling in the shallows.

The local dive centre offers diving tours where you will be surrounded by the colourful tropical fish of the ocean. You can also enjoy seeing these fish from the comfort of a glass-bottomed boat. If you’re an adrenaline seeker then take part in a water-skiing or wind surfing course to learn how to skim over the sparkling waters at speed.

If adrenaline filled water sports are your type of activity you can also spend the day receiving kite surfing or kite foiling lessons from Jérôme Bonieux and Dominique Fayd’Herbe, famous Mauritian instructors.

Catamaran Trip

Enjoy a unique and exciting catamaran trip on the azure waters of the Indian Ocean. This is an excellent way to enjoy the island and its waters; gilding along the ocean with spectacular views of the islands’ forest covered fields and hills. Guests can choose to enjoy supper or drinks on the water for a memorable and once-in-a-lifetime experience.

Sports Activities

Guests can get active while staying at Preskil Island Resort. There are tennis and volleyball courts, as well as a football pitch; find a team within your fellow guests and enjoy a friendly match under the sun. Table tennis and speedminton is also available, there is a game for everyone.

Pirogue Breakfast

Rise slightly early to enjoy this unique breakfast experience. Make your way out to the lagoon on a boat prepared with delicious food and munch on fresh fruit surrounded by the peacefulness of the wide ocean and early morning. This is the perfect romantic break for couples, and an unforgettable moment.

Resort Activities

Aside from the gorgeous beach on Preskil Island Resorts’ doorstep, there are many ways to have an enjoyable day within the resort. The Banyan Spa offers an impressive range of treatments all designed to relax, calm and indulge guests in the atmospheric spa room.

Enjoy a stress-relieving massage before finishing your treatment in the sauna or jacuzzi. There are two outdoor pools at the resort, and both are perfect places to escape the heat of the day with a cooling dip, or start your day off right with an aqua Zumba class.

Tikoulou Kids Club

Children can have fun and learn all about Mauritius in the kids club. Supervised by trained members of staff and artists, children can be left to enjoy a day spent drawing, playing games and learning all about the unique island.

Supporting Local Enterprises

Preskil Island Resort has various initiatives which support local businesses, which works to empower the whole local community. They support ‘BioOil Company’ who recycle the bio oil the resort uses in their spa in an environmentally sensitive way.

Also supported are two organisations, ‘Food Wise’ and ‘Pangora Ltd.’, both of which strive for zero food waste and distribute left over food from the resort to underprivileged children in local schools. As well as supporting these two organisations, Preskil Island Resort actively discourage their guests from food waste.

Reducing Environmental Footprint

Preskil Island Resort has many initiatives in place to help reduce their impact on their local environment. Eco-friendly alternatives such as electric bikes, LED light bulbs and ECOCERT certified cleaning products are used, as well as shampoos and shower gels being 95% natural, and all massage oils used in the spa being 100% natural.

The containers which hold the bathroom amenities are recycled, and stone paper packing is used instead of plastic packaging, with the resort actively discouraging the use of plastic water bottles. Solar water heaters are used to reduce their reliance on fossil fuels, and guests are encouraged to conserve water by taking shorter showers, which is aided by water reducers being installed in all rooms.

All snorkelling and diving activities are conducted in a respectable way which won’t disrupt the reef. Guests are actively encouraged to enjoy non-motorised water sports so they won’t disrupt conservation efforts. And activities to engage and educate guests are held, such as green talks, beach clean ups, mangrove and tree planting, nature walks and coral planting.
