Maasai Mara Game Reserve
The Maasai Mara Game Reserve is home to over 400 different bird species, including raptors, vultures, kori bustards and Narina trogons. The stunning birdlife is most prolific during Kenya’s green season (November to May), when the vegetation is lush and overgrown. The diverse landscape of the Maasai Mara is ideal for many different species as birds are able to access both the river, trees and plains. The dry season begins around June, as the flora dies up and the game congregates around the river and waterholes. Herds of elephant, giraffe, zebra and buffalo will gather together, providing incredible game viewing and luring in predators such as lions and cheetahs.
Sanctuary Olonana Camp
Built in the heart of Kenya’s Biggest Game Country, Olonana Camp offers an unforgettable experience with a number of exhilarating adventures just waiting to unfold. Your day at Olonana Camp will consist of game drives and nature walks around the reserve, searching for the iconic wildlife residents, learning about the wilderness and identifying over 300 different bird species.
Game drives: Guests will be able to explore the Maasai Mara in a 4×4 safari vehicle that has been built for their ideal comfort. This activity is led by highly qualified drivers and guides, who know all the best secret spots to encounter the resident wildlife. On your drive across the reserve, you will come across lions, gazelles, hippos, giraffes, hyenas, buffalos, zebras, wildebeests and elephants.
The Great Migrations: If you are travelling between July and early October, you will get to experience the greatest animal show on earth. The Great Migration consists of millions of zebras, wildebeest and an array of antelope species, who journey across Serengeti in Tanzania to the Maasai Mara in Kenya. The journey these animals embark on is not easy, it’s a fight for survival against the predatory animals they come across. Forced to travel to keep with their dwindling food supply as the seasons transform the landscape, each year millions of herbivores risk their lives in a desperate bid to reach the Maasai Mara, with hundreds of thousands of fatalities.
Nature Walks and Bird Watching Excursions: A popular adventure at Olonana camp, nature walks offer guests the opportunity to “leave their mark” by planting trees in their award-winning wetlands. During your nature walk, you will get the chance to discover over 300 different bird species and identify them by the certain songs they sing and even get the chance to learn about the different insects, and the fascinating system ants have to build and maintain their anthills.
Upon arrival at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, you will be met by an andBeyond member and be transferred by road to Wilson Airport in time for your scheduled flight to Maasai Mara Airport.
