As well as supporting local fishermen, they also produce the best locally grown organic fruit and vegetables. The resort’s culinary team will take you on a gastronomic journey through the island’s culinary identity, with a splash of traditional Sri Lankan and Asian cuisine.

What sets them apart from the other Pasikuda restaurants is that they allow you to dine when you are hungry. Doing away with antiquated and rigid restaurant mealtimes  – the dining service caters to your body clock.

Private Dining at Uga Bay

Uga Bay offers you a variety of diverse private dining options otherwise not featured amongst the other restaurants in Pasikuda. Go on a culinary journey to stimulate all your senses at the exclusive restaurant which overlooks the gorgeous Pasikuda ocean.

The resort also has several barbecue options: enjoy a seafood barbecue on the beach surrounded by towering palm trees or by the magnificent infinity pool. The team will elegantly craft your dining area entirely out of sand with only one piece of wood being used throughout its creation. After you’re done dining under the stars, you could even have some childlike fun destroying your sand furniture – a truly novel experience.

You can also order in some room service and enjoy a private dining experience indoors or on your private terrace/balcony. The wide selection of dining choices and flexible times ensure tailor-made experiences to suit every mood and palate.

Passikudah Bay

Spend a day (or many) at Sri Lanka’s famous Pasikuda beach, perched along the Eastern coastal line of Batticaloa it stretches for 2 km of beautiful golden sand and sapphire sea. The calm and shallow waters of this gorgeous bay allows you to wade in for up to half a kilometre with no depth or current to fear. The bay is also home to an incredible collection of marine life, sustained by the delicate coral reef which, together with the crystal-clear waters, makes for the perfect conditions for snorkelling.

The peak season on the Pasikuda is between May and September. The calm waters and warm conditions during this time make the eastern coast of Sri Lanka a great place to enjoy a variety of exciting water sports. Meanwhile, Kayankerni, with its underwater shipwrecks and plethora of vibrant marine species, is a must-visit site for divers of all skill levels. Additionally, there is no better way to absorb the astounding beauty of the Pasikuda Bay than by sailing along its coast. The team at Uga Bay can also organise exclusive private sailing tours that are perfect for connecting with the ocean and enjoying the splendour and magnificence of this coastal paradise.

Minneriiya

The Minneriya National Park is renowned for its rare indigenous species of flora and fauna; and for decades it has been an essential stop on a nature lover’s tour of Sri Lankan wildlife. This park is home to an astounding variety of plant, bird, mammal, amphibian, reptile, fish, and insect species, but is most celebrated for its herds of elephants. It plays host to what is now known as ‘The Gathering’ – a phenomenon which sees hundreds of elephants congregate upon the grass fields bordering the park’s reservoir during the Dry Season. Uga Bay provides easy access to several wildlife hotbeds and provides an unparalleled location among the hotels near Minneriya National Park.

Diving

Among the many great dive sites around this magnificent island, the HMS Hermes is probably one of the most widely treasured. It presents a unique proposition for enthusiastic divers seeking a technical challenge – all while exploring the recesses of a rare structure. The dive site’s close proximity to the coastline makes it easily accessible to diving expeditions, while the exotic array of colourful marine life only adds to the experience.

Diving along the East Coast in Sri Lanka is seasonal and may not be available if weather conditions are not conducive. The best time to dive here is from May to August.

The fundamental intentions of the policy include economic development, job creation, and infrastructure development in local communities, as well as bringing economic growth and prosperity to desirable tourist destinations which can then raise the standard of living in local communities.

Through the community engagement policy, the Uga Escapes team will also inform the visitors of the culture and livelihood of the surrounding communities. They will back the integrity of local cultures by favouring businesses which conserve cultural heritage and traditional values and support local economies by purchasing local goods and joining with small, local businesses. Furthermore they intend to sustain resources by seeking out businesses that are environmentally conscious and use the least possible volume of non-renewable supplies.

Environmental Conservation

“Uga cares about environmental conservation and sustaining our local communities in ethical ways. Our eco hotel in Sri Lanka has earned LEED certification (Leadership in Environmental and Energy Design) from the Green Building Council of the United States. We didn’t cut down trees to build but planted more.

We use environmentally friendly, biodegradable materials in our structures. Our use of solar energy and bio gas, along with a water-treatment plant are some of the major ways we invest in the environment, but in small ways, we conserve energy with LED light bulbs, we use clay and glass instead plastic, and we maintain an organic farm, which means we use only natural pesticides and fertilizers. There are many rewards staying in luxury eco hotels in Sri Lanka.”
