Aguila de Osa

Located in Drake Bay, the Aguila de Osa has a truly amazing location. It benefits from being on the Osa Peninsula, and being only a short distance from Corcovado National Park and Caño Island Biological Marine Reserve, two of Costa Ricas most precious gems, full of nature. Situated on the waterfront provides the lodge with breath taking views of the Aguitas River and Drake Bay.  Visitors are welcome to take a stroll along golden sands of Drake Bay beach, gaze upon the sparkling waters at Playa Colorada, and take in the beauty of nature on the Drake Bay Hiking Trail: all within a short walking distance from the lodge.

Master Suite

Aguila de Osa offer Master Suite rooms which are spacious private bungalows that are designed in richly textured woods and the furniture within the rooms are are crafted regional furniture. The 20-foot ceilings accentuate the vast size of the rooms which are provided with cross ventilation to maximise the air flow. Included in the suites are king and queen size beds, a large sofa and chair, and a walk-in closet so there is no shortage of storage space. Visitors will also find a mini bar/refrigerator and toiletries including a hairdryer so guests can pack light. Within the rooms is also a bathroom featuring granite counters, Italian tiles and a large shower which overlooks the bay giving the visitor a magnificent view whilst showering. Guests can also find a private wrap around balcony featuring handcrafted furniture and two hammocks, with astonishing views of the tropical gardens and the wildlife that have made Aguila de Osa their home.

Junior Suite

The Junior Suite is a private cabin that was built in all hardwoods with the design inspired by the tropics. These rooms have been built with 18-foot ceilings with four dormers around the room to open welcome the tropical breeze. Feel yourself become immersed with the sounds of the rainforest as the ceiling fan enhances the sound of the tropical breeze. In these particular rooms are king size beds, an oversized chair for the comfort of the visitor and they also feature a private balcony that provide awe-inspiring views of the bay. A bathroom also comes with the rooms consisting of distinctive Italian tiles, granite counters and luxurious bathroom fixtures.

Deluxe Rooms

The Deluxe Rooms features a single king or two queen size beds, screened windows which can be found on three sides of the room and ceiling fans. A bathroom is also provided with these rooms designed with Italian tiles, a granite counter and sophisticated bathroom fixtures. There is a private terrace for visitors to relax on either in the hammock or rocking chairs, whilst taking in the natural beauty of the rainforest and watch the wildlife explore the wonders of Aguila de Osa. When visiting the lodge, guests are able to reserve both of the Deluxe Family rooms which both provide two queen size beds in each room so there is plenty of room for a large group travelling together.

Standard Rooms

The Standard Rooms include two queen size beds providing enough space for one to four people in these spacious rooms with 18-foot cathedral ceilings. Handcrafted furniture is featured in the Standard Rooms with ceiling fans and screen windows that allow the air to flow throughout the room. A bathroom is also included when staying in these rooms with Italian tiles built in, granite counters, high-quality bathroom fixtures and a walk-in shower so space is never an issue. An open outdoor sitting area comes with these rooms so guests can relax and enjoy the views of the surrounding rainforest and the sounds of the wildlife.

The Great Room

Dine in the Great Room where guests can experience a distinctive and adventurous Pan-American cuisine and enjoy the appetizing food with sublime views of the ocean. All meals made are sourced locally from pristine waters and local farms within the Osa Peninsula. Experience an authentic culinary adventure by tasting the natural seafood and choice cuts, garnished with organic herbs and local produce. It is all-inclusive when dining in the Great Room, with breakfast, lunch, appetizers and dinner all included for guests.

 

Our Bar

The bar, situated in the Great Room, guests can indulge in dozens of signature cocktails inspired by the tropics that surround the lodge. The Guaro Sour, the Sabor Tico, Mojitos, Margaritas and Coladas are just some examples of the cocktails, made from tropical fruits, that guests can enjoy at the bar. The bar is always fully stocked with more popular drinks, gins, vodkas, 19 brands of Kentucky and Tennessee bourbons, Canadian whiskey and premium Scotches. There is always a variety of drinks to appease to the taste of guests so no one leaves unsatisfied.

Snorkelling

Guests can snorkel in the clear waters of Cano Island Biological Marine Reserve where you can experience schools of vibrant tropical fish and rock formations. Guided by dive masters, snorkelers of all ages and experience are taken aboard the 30-foot Island Hopper. Visibility through the waters are 30-100 feet year-round providing the snorkelers clear views of the exotic sea life in the two emersions of snorkelling with all snorkelling gear included. A delectable picnic lunch involving fruits, soft drinks and desert will be waiting at the San Josecito beach where snorkelers can relax and take a break from their under water adventures.

Scuba Diving

Scuba diving takes place in the cobalt blue waters that surround Cano Island Biological Marine Reserve where scuba divers can experience an Eden of coloured coral and vibrant tropical fish that have found a home within the rock transformations. All divers of any experience are welcome, including beginners, intermediate and advanced who are taken aboard the 30-foot Island Hopper by diver masters.

Sport Fishing

There are half-days and full-days available for sport fishing; the half-days are closer in to the Cano Island to fish for Wahoo or venture out to the rock mounts for Cubera Snappers, Amberjacks and Grouper. On full-days, guests can chase the runs of big Blue and Black Marlin, Sailfish which range from 20 to 60 miles out and also look out for huge schools of spinner Dolphin to find the big Yellow Fin Tuna and Dorado.

Mangrove Tours

This tour is only accessible by boat which guests can board to cruise down the canals of the Terreba-Sierpe Mangroves and explore the fascinating wildlife within the large mangroves: the largest mangroves on the Pacific Coast of Central America. A lot of different wildlife can be found deep within the mangroves including squirrel and capuchin monkeys, sloths, crocodiles, caimans, mangrove Boas, red-eyed tree frogs and river turtles.

Whale and Dolphin Watching

Boats are available to board to venture out into the waters to spot humpback or pilot whales, or even one of the five species of dolphins. Humpback whales and its calf can be seen as these whales come here to give birth and raise their calf until they are able to travel back home to the north or southern hemisphere once the calf is strong enough to make the journey. The Northern Whale Migration lasts from January to April and the Southern Whale Migration lasts from July through to October.

River and Ocean Kayaking

The Agujitas River is available for guests to use it for kayaking along, flowing down to the open ocean. This is a self-guided tour in one or two-man kayaks that are available all day to head up the river or into the rainforest where you can experience the tropical wildlife and natural beauty of their habitat.

Hiking Corcovado

Taking a 25-minute journey on a boat along the west coast of the Osa, the rainforest journey begins as guests can venture through the primary rainforest. The morning begins with a hike lead by a Greentique guide who will point out many of the diverse species along the way: some species that can be seen are white-faced spiders, howler monkeys, white-lipped peccaries, scarlet macaws, coati and many other birds and insects. There is also the opportunity to hike to a waterfall where hikers can relax, take a swim in the cool waters, and capture beautiful photographs of the surrounding area.

Bird Watching

There are more than 350 bird species within the region and expert guides will be there to help spot rare and endemic species. The tour lasts for two hours, is flexible and be modified to meet the specific needs and interests of those who would like to take part.

Horseback Riding

This tour is available for all levels of experience, including beginner or being an expert at horseback riding. Guests can head up the river on horseback as they make their way to the waterfalls hidden within the rainforest, where they can take a swim in the cool refreshing waters. After the swim, guests can ride the horses to the beach as the sun is dipping behind the horizon line, taking in the gentle breeze of the ocean, as they head back to the hotel.

Zipline Tour

This canopy tour is one of the longest in Costa Rica as guests can travers across the rainforest across 13 elevated platforms, some with spans of up to 400 meters apart. Guests will meet their transport to Los Planes in the Great Room where you will be fitted with all the necessary gear and briefed on how to use the equipment to ensure safety measures are in place.

Night Tour

Many of the inhabitants within the rainforest are nocturnal so private tours are available where a naturalist guide will take you on a tour to experience the wonders that happen in the forest at night. Intricacies of the complex ecosystem will be explained by the guides as well as the distinctive characters of the rainforest’s nocturnal residents: the sounds, sights and smells. Some of the wildlife that can be sighted are moths, frogs, sleeping birds, owls, and opossums.

Aguila de Osa is a sustainable ecolodge and manages all the policies of sustainable tourism in Costa Rica. They take part in recycling programmes and also have a commitment to their community. Food is sourced locally, often from their own coastal farm La Perla, waste is recycled and they conserve water to minimise the footprint in Osa.
