Empowering Local People

Kwando Safaris is an entirely citizen owned company, stressing the importance of local employment and empowerment. The overwhelming majority of staff are Botswanan nationals, ensuing an air of authenticity and legitimacy to the underlying safari experience. Seeking to offer long term careers as opposed to jobs, for every member of staff. The opportunities afforded to ambitious and talented citizens are widely sought after throughout the nation. Kwando supports 3 primary initiatives and local projects – Lady Khama Charitable Trust, Kwando’s Bucket Project and Mummy’s Angel Project, showcasing a commitment to contribution.

Solar Power and Water Heating

The excess of Sun and solar rays is undoubtedly one of the greatest natural resource available for utilisation through eco-friendly means, providing natural options for generating power and heating water through the use of solar technology.

Kwando Safaris camps are situated in environmentally sensitive areas. To ensure that the camps cause minimal impact on their surroundings, the company has invested in highly efficient solar generating equipment to operate the entirety of the camp and inherent facilities. All electrical appliances used in the camps are energy saving products – ensuring the lightest possible carbon footprint. Such installations are implemented in a subtle manner and serve a crucial role in maintaining sustainability and ecological harmony, all without compromising the quintessential safari experience.

Water Treatment

Through using above ground, state-of-the-art sewage treatment plants, Splash avoids cross contamination of the soils or ground water through discharge of grey or black water. The fully treated product is eventually returned to the ground.

Environmentally Friendly Design

Intelligent design compliments the production of environmentally friendly and ethically sourced energy. The application of insulated walling (where appropriate) and thatch within the design of the camps avoids the need to install air conditioning units that consume large quantities of power and are detrimental to the environment.

Insulation and thatch provide a pleasant interior temperature regardless of the excessive heat and cold characteristic of desert environments. Insulated cladding for hot water geysers and the installation of piping vastly increases the efficiency of hot water systems by negating heat loss from the system overnight, particularly during the colder months of the year.

Children Aged 6 and Over Welcome

Kwando Splash Camp welcomes all children aged 6 years and old, though they must be accompanied by an adult at all times
