Hog Hollow Country Lodge, Plettenberg Bay, South Africa

Located in a serene wilderness, Hog Hollow Country Lodge sits overlooking the Matjies River Gorge and the distant wooded Tsitsikamma Mountains. A short distance from the lodge lies Plettenberg Bay. One of the most pristine and beautiful bays on the tip of South Africa, Plettenberg was first named Bahia Formosa by early Portuguese explorers, which translates to ‘beautiful bay’. These days it is one of the largest seagull breeding colonies in South Africa, and bottlenose dolphins, common dolphins, and humpback dolphins visit the bay throughout the year.

Also, close by Hog Hollow Country Lodge is the Birds of Eden, which is the largest bird sanctuary in the world.  Created in 2005, a large mesh enclosure was placed over 5.7 acres of indigenous forest to create a natural wildlife harbour for the birds. With over 3500 birds and 200 species, some of the colourful birds which can be seen here include Grey parrots, Greater flamingos, Blue cranes, Channel-billed toucans, Scarlet ibis’s, Slender-billed parakeets, and Zebra doves, as well as many, many more.

Guests can drive to Hog Hollow Country Lodge by travelling from Plettenberg Bay on the N2 towards Port Elizabeth. Along the N2 is a road sign which says ‘ASKOP’, at this road sign turn off the highway. Follow the road for 1.3km where you will find Hog Hollow on the left. Hotel transfers are not offered.
