Villa Inkaterra

Spectacled Bear Project
The ITA and the SERNANP associations manage the Inkaterra Machu Picchu Spectacled Bear Project. A project focused on nurturing bears who have suffered at the face of the human footprint and helps them recover and reintegrate back into the natural world. The spectacled bear is an endangered species that is at risk of extinction within intervention from wildlife conservation organisations. Visit the project, gain insight into the magnitude of the problem and learn how we can all contribute to helping the project.

Specialised Walk
A 3 hour long walk along the hotel’s incredible bird and orchid trails. Learn all about the hidden wonders of the natural world present in the hotel’s many acres of land. A highly qualified explorer guide will talk guests through the varieties and types of birds and plants on show and the picturesque landscape is bound to take your breath away.

Machu Picchu and Wayna Picchu
Enjoy a private guided tour of the wondrous historical citadel of Machu Picchu followed by a challenging yet rewarding hour-long trek up Wayna Picchu. The trek to Wayna Picchu is for the more adventurous traveller as the hike covers a treacherous pathway along the edge of the mountain guiding you up to a secluded corner of the famous archeological site. This trip boasts some of the best views in the land including over the Vilcanota river, the mountain of Putukusi and distant Andean peaks.

Apu Machu Picchu

A two hour walk along the Vilcanota River along the ancient railroad tracks. Museum – Market

Following the market, take a 30 minute walk to the Manuel Chavez Ballóon Museum and read about many ancient artefacts related to the archeological site.

Earth Ceremony
Attend a traditional earth ceremony conducted by a local shaman. This ancient ritual is a ceremony where attendees give thanks to the Andean gods. Immerse yourself in the captivating culture of this majestical part of the world and join the shaman in this sacred ceremony.

Since Inkaterra was established, more that 4,000 local community members have been trained and equipped with skills to enhance employability and heighten their chances of leading a sustainable way of life. Career opportunities with the hotel group are made available to locals and often career progression is made accessible. Also, environmental conferences are held especially for locals to equip them with the knowledge necessary to preserve the environment.

Sustainable Business Model

The hotel group adheres to a strict sustainability policy which respects and embraces cultural, social and environmental values. They work to mitigate any negative impact on the surrounding areas and communities where they operate and instead boost ecosystems, guarantee compliance with national and international regulations and practise profitable conservation and sustainable use of biodiversity.

Scientific Research

The Inkaterra hotel group have been performing scientific research since 1978. They endeavour to measure the brand’s future impact and run a world leading wildlife conservation programme. Through research, “A total of 814 bird species, 365 ant species, 313 butterfly species, and over 100 mammal species have been inventoried within hotel grounds and surroundings. 28 species new to science have been described: 19 orchids, 5 amphibians, 1 butterfly, 2 bromeliads and 1 tropical vine.”

Conservation

The NGO Inkaterra Association develops and manages initiatives on biodiversity conservation. Initiatives include; a canopy walkway, a bridge system in the rainforest canopy to enable wildlife observation, the largest native orchid collection in the world and many more. In 1989, the hotel brand was the first enterprise to become carbon neutral, ensuring the hotel mitigates the effects of its activities on the natural world.

Many of the excluded and included activities on offer at the hotel are child friendly.

The hotel also offers activities exclusive to children including a treasure hunt and the opportunity for children to assist a hotel guide, exploring wildlife and preserving the hotel’s gardens together.
