Otentic Eco Tent Experience

Offering guests a completely unique experience, Otentic is the only eco tented glamping site in Mauritius. It is based in the small village of Deux Frères (two brothers) on the east coast of Mauritius, one of the least developed parts of the island, meaning that guests can truly immerse themselves in their totally natural surroundings. Otentic offers two experiences; one in the village, right on the river, and the other at the foot of the iconic Bambous mountain. However, no matter which you choose to stay at, you are guaranteed to leave with memories which will last a lifetime. Otentic Eco Tent Experience is located by the Grand River South East and offers stunning views and an unrivalled experience on the island of Mauritius.

Otentic Eco Tent Coastal Road, Deux Freres, Grand River South East

From the river glamping experience in the village, two of the most beautiful beaches of Mauritius, Ile aux Cerfs & Ilot Mangenie, are a mere 30 minutes away by boat. The river location is situated halfway between the impressive Grand River South Easte waterfall and the 25km crystal lagoon that stretches from Blue Bay. The camp itself is surrounded by vivid and luscious indigenous forests which are waiting to be explored by guests.

The Mountain location has access to two free shuttles per day that link the two sites, increasing your flexibility. Based at the foot of Bambous Mountain, in the middle of Bambous Virieux valley, the mountain eco tent is also home to spectacular views of the rolling mountains and hills, and stretching views over the sparkling, turquoise Indian Ocean.

Otentic River Tent

The 12 tents situated halfway between the waterfalls and the lagoon are nestled between vivid green palm trees, and have been made and furnished with wood, giving them a charming rustic feel. The decking at the front offers you a perfect spot to admire the sweeping view over luscious green trees and the sparkling river.

The tents are charming and cosy, with a large comfortable bed on a minimalist pallet frame, covered in crisp white bed linen with plush pillows. Wide gauze windows let in bright, natural light and fresh Mauritian breezes whilst keeping out pesky bugs. All the tents come with a semi-open-air ensuite bathroom, which comes complete with a unique rustic basin, large walk in shower and a private toilet. The bathroom is screened by wooden walls and dark curtains for privacy.

All tents are equipped with a double bed, and two or three single beds can be added to accommodate families or groups of friends.

Otentic Mountain Tent

The spirit behind Otentic Mountain is one of sharing, simplicity, and conviviality. This is the perfect tent for couples who wish to enjoy a romantic getaway or wish to disconnect from modern life for a while. If you’re looking for a technological detox, this is the place for you. There is no phone connection, no internet, and no Wifi.

Built in a similar style to the River Tents, the Mountain Tent is made with natural wood, with polished wooden floorboards and wooden furniture working to ground the tent into the nature which surrounds it. Wide gauze windows fill the room with natural light, and a cosy double bed sits to one side of the room, swathed in mosquito netting and overlooking the tents private decking.

A semi-outdoor bathroom sits to the back of the tent and comes complete with a rustic walk-in shower, a unique wooden hand basin, and a private toilet. The pièce de résistance of Mountain Tent is the panoramic views over the forested mountains, and azure ocean view which stretches to the endless horizon. Guests can unwind on their decking, high from their perch on the mountain and gaze over the uninterrupted celestial view.

All tents are equipped with a double bed, and two or three single beds can be added to accommodate families or groups of friends.

Otentic offers a unique dining experience where you are encouraged to help with the preparation of food. For breakfast you can expect a healthy choice of fresh fruit juice, cereals, homemade jam and yoghurt, eggs (from their own chickens), omelettes, cheese, and ham.

Lunch brings a new flavour with choices of octopus salad with kaffir lime, creole sausage rougail, crab and coconut curry, seafood vindaloo, raw tuna marinated with olive oil and ginger, green mango chutney, wood smoked aubergine caviar, and green papaya pickles. These are just a few of the different tastes you will experience with lunch at Otentic.

Every evening, you can have wood grilled meat or fish or seafood BBQ accompanied by vegetarian side dishes and fresh salad followed by dessert. End the day with a homemade rum around the traditional bonfire. Otentic also offers a 100% vegetarian option.

Kayak/Standing Paddle Board

Paddle down the Grand River South East and enjoy the stunning waterfall at times when no one else is there. Discover hidden beaches and coves where boats can’t go and have fun exploring through the mangroves of Ile aux Cerfs and Ilot Mangenie.

Kitesurfing

The free shuttle will take you down to the beach to enjoy water activities – like kitesurfing! Try kitesurfing in one of the best spots on the island, Joyride – still unknown to the majority of kitesurfing tourists.

Mountain Biking

Explore the sugar cane plantations between the river and the mountain. With minimal impact on the environment this activity offers guests an exciting and faster paced way of exploring the island without the need for a vehicle.

You can stop to refresh yourself in hidden waterfalls and river ponds before continuing your biking journey through and around the luscious forests of Mauritius.

Trekking

Guests can head out with a trained guide or on their own and spend the day hiking the hidden wonders of Mauritius. With a variety of hikes to try all within a few kms of the lodge there is something for all abilities, and many offer stunning viewpoints of Mauritius.

Snorkeling on Ilot Flamand

Ilot Flamand is a beautiful sandbar that lies in the middle of the ocean. The sandbar moves and changes shape every now and then after strong tides and currents. Otentic enables you to discover the islet when you join their half-day snorkeling excursion in ‘Eau Bleue’.

On Site Activities

On site, Otentic has nets to play tennis and volleyball, as well as a natural pool that you can swim in. There’s also a range of campsite games that you can play to get the competition flowing.

Eco-Conscious Design

Built with preserving and protecting the natural environment in mind, all the structures and furniture at Otentic Eco Tent Experience are built with natural or reclaimed materials. The tents are all canopied and have a fly net which helps to keep the tent cool during warmer weather, so no air conditioning is needed. The furniture inside the tents, as well as the decking are made from planks of wood from old houses, potato boxes, pallets and old doors. Natural features of the land are made use out of, as the on-site pool is a naturally occurring pool.

Community

Otentic Eco Tent Experience is owned and run by a fully Mauritian team. All staff members are employed from local villages, creating a traditional Mauritian atmosphere and experience for guests.

Organic Food

In the Otentic Mountain site, most organic vegetables and herbs are grown on-site and the meals are 100% vegetarian and as organic as possible. They are already water and energy self-sufficient and they aim to be able to feed their guests with only their own organic produce. They also own chickens and bees to help them produce and use more natural ingredients.

Renewable Energy

Otentic Eco Tent Experience uses renewable resources to generate their energy. By using solar power, they are harnessing the natural energy from the sun and not relying on burning fossil fuels which is harmful for the environment. Rainwater is harvested, and solar energy heats the water for the tents as well as heating the natural swimming pool.
