This old colonial-era military base has been converted into a historic preserved museum for you to take a look back into the history of Paraty. Constructed in 1793, the building was constructed to help protect the flow of gold from the nearby Royal Road, as well as the sugar production of the region. During a period of decline in Paraty, the fort was in ruins until 1822 when it was rebuilt in honour of Dom Pedro I, Emperor and Perp Ethan Defender of Brazil.

Nowadays, the forte stands as a reminder of Brazil’s rich history. For those with an interest in military history, you would be foolish to miss out on this stop.

Paraty Sport Adventura is the largest tree-climbing park in Brazil. The park is centred around a natural environment where nets and platforms have been set up so you can climb and have fun in a safe and exciting way. 2 tree climbing routes are the main activities of the park, featuring differing levels of difficulty, and there is also a Canopy Tour which totals 700 meters of adrenaline-fuelled excitement. Beyond that, the park offers introductions and opportunities for rappelling, kayaking, forest trailing and canyoneering. This is certainly a great visit for the whole family.
