Exploring Botswana by light aircraft is the best way to experience it, as guests are able to access very remote areas of pristine wilderness. Botswana is well known for having some of the best wilderness and wildlife areas on the African continent. With a full 38 percent of its total land area devoted to national parks, reserves and wildlife management areas – for the most part unfenced, allowing animals to roam wild and free – travel through many parts of the country has the feeling of moving through an immense nature wonderland.
Botswana is a rarity in our overpopulated, over-developed world. Untamed and untameable, it is one of the last great refuges for nature’s magnificent pageantry of life. Experience here the stunning beauty of the world’s largest intact inland Delta – the Okavango and the astoundingly prolific wildlife of the Chobe National Park. Botswana is the last stronghold for a number of endangered bird and mammal species, including Wild Dog, Cheetah, Brown Hyena, Cape Vulture, Wattled Crane, Kori Bustard, and Pel’s Fishing Owl. This makes your safari experience even more memorable, and at times you will feel simply surrounded by wild animals.
The first – and most lasting impressions – will be of vast expanses of uninhabited wilderness stretching from horizon to horizon, the sensation of limitless space, astoundingly rich wildlife and bird viewing, night skies littered with stars and heavenly bodies of an unimaginable brilliance, and stunning sunsets of unearthly beauty.
Upon arrival to Maun Airport you will be met by a representative and transferred by scenic light aircraft in to the heart of the Okavango Delta. Travelling around Botswana by light aircraft is an immersive and breath taking way to view the country and it’s diverse landscapes.
The Okavango Delta is a wetland paradise, the largest inland Delta in the world, and a maze of channels and waterways. Home to the Big 5 and an abundance of birdlife, the Okavango Delta is on the wishlist of many travel enthusiasts. Activities on offer in the Okavango Delta include boat cruises and game drives. As the Delta is made up of private concessions, guests have the added excitement of enjoying night drives and bush walks as there are not restrictions on off-roading or walking like there is in classified national parks.
Spend the next 3 nights at your chosen lodge.
On Day 4 you will be transferred by scenic light aircraft over the Okavango Delta to the Khwai Concession, an area of rich wildlife located on the border of Moremi Game Reserve.
The Khwai concession and Moremi Game Reserve are separated by the Khwai River which meanders through the area. Wildlife frequently cross between the two areas and there is nothing better than parking up river side with a coffee and watching the abundant game coming down to the river to drink. From watching lion swim over the river to elephants bathing under the blazing sun, the sightings guarantee to be memorable.
Spend the next 3 nights at your chosen lodge.
Your light aircraft flight time will be advised 24 hours in advance and at the applicable time you will be transferred to Kasane, the hub for Chobe National Park.
Your final 3 nights will be spent enjoying the highlights of Chobe National Park and the varied activities that the destination has to offer. The Chobe region is home to the highest concentration of elephants in Africa, best viewed on a boat cruise on the vast Chobe River. Game drives are also offered within the national park. Kasane is only 1.5 hours drive from Victoria Falls, so a daytrip to the falls is highly recommended to tick off another bucket list travel dream.
