Chiang Mai

Once the capital of the Lanna Kingdom, Chiang Mai exudes a laid-back and peaceful charm. Remnants of the former city wall enclose its historic Old Town, dotted with numerous ancient temples.

Mae Hong Son

Travel beyond the boundaries of the main cities and you’ll soon be surrounded by scenic mountains and beautiful jungle, hiding colourful hill tribes, elephant sanctuaries and stunning waterfalls, as well as the infamous Golden Triangle – the point where Thailand, Laos and Myanmar meet – to the very north.

Example Itinerary
(B) Breakfast, (L) Lunch, (D) Dinner

Upon arrival, our local English-speaking guide will be waiting for a private transfer from the airport to your hotel.

After a cooked breakfast at the hotel, check out and travel from Chiang Mai to Pai. The journey is a 3-hour drive on a jagged mountain route with astonishing views. After your arrival in Pai, the first visit is to the wooden Pai Memorial Bridge, a well-renowned and symbolic point of interest in Pai town built during World War 2. Continue to visit Wat Phra That Mae Yen, an ancient important temple of Pai with a mix of Thai Northern Lanna and Burmese-style art including the reclining buddha and the white big buddha.

Check into the hotel, store your luggage and enjoy a relaxing break before a visit to Pai Canyon, where the erosion of wind and rain has formed a small path on the ridge. Enjoy the beautiful 360° surroundings of a mountain and the beautiful valley below.

In the evening (depending on time), visit Pai night market with our guide.

On day 3, travel to Yun Lai hill, located out of Pai Town. This is a famous spot to watch the sea of fog at sunrise that surrounds the village, overlooked by mountains. Continue to Santichon Village, a small Yunnan cultural centre not far from Yun Lai. This village was settled by the Chinese who fled the revolution of Mao Tse Tung, and after all these years, descendants of these settlers still live here making it an interesting place to visit. Wander around to check out the clay houses and beautiful buildings in typical Yunnan style. You’ll taste some of the traditional local cuisine, including fried mushrooms and steamed black chicken. Then journey to Sai Ngam Hot Springs, which is located about 15km from Santichon. These hot springs are located right in the jungle, amidst natural surroundings making for a perfect place to relax away from the hustle and bustle of Pai.

Check out from the hotel and embark on an hour-long drive out of Pai town to visit Tham Lod Cave. It’s one of Thailand’s most impressive and easily accessible caves, recognised for its size, its attractive limestone stalactite formations and its unusual coffin cave, hidden within the main cave. Tham Lod Cave is a natural limestone cave system, its main feature is the freshwater stream which runs through the middle of the cave for about 200-300 metres. Inside its walls are massive formations and columns over 20 metres high. The cave is also home to large numbers of bats and swifts.

Continue to drive for approximately 1 and a half – 2 hours to Mae Hong Son and enjoy lunch at a local restaurant en route. You’ll next visit Wat Phra That Doi Kong Mu. This temple reflects the strong influence of the Burmese and two lavishly decorated pagodas. The hilltop temple also offers an exceptional aerial view of the city and the surrounding mountains and valleys. Afterwards, visit the iconic symbols of Mae Hong Son at Wat Jong Kham and Wat Jong Klang which are ancient temples of the town. Built by proficient Thai Yai people, these extraordinary Thai Yai works of art are set within the same grounds. Both are found on the southern Chong Klang Lake and when the sun reflects their images onto the water; the effect is awe-inspiring.

In the morning you will travel by boat along Pai River to visit Long Neck Karen Village. The Village is actually an array of refugee camps with women that wear heavy brass rings that make their necks appear very long. The reason for this behaviour is lost to history, but some believe that the rings saved women from attacks by Tigers. Then, visit Tham Pla (Fish Cave) and its surrounding area filled with brooks and cool hilly forests, suitable for relaxation. A special feature is the hollow cave filled with numerous freshwater fish known as Pla Mung or Pla Khang, which are of the same family as the carp. The fish are quite safe from being caught as they are believed to belong to the gods.

Enjoy a cooked breakfast at the Fern Resort and balance a day of leisure or enjoy activities created by the resort.

Have breakfast at the hotel and check out as per the hotel’s policy.
