Kichwa Tembo Tented Camp

Kichwa Tembo is located in the northern part of the Mara Triangle and rests on the edge of the Oloololo escarpment, creating the perfect location for an authentic African experience and the discovery of iconic African wildlife and wilderness.

Your time at Kichwa Tembo will be prioritised around exploring the renowned Maasai Mara, exploring its iconic wildlife, plant life and vast wilderness. You are entitled to two daily scheduled game drives, where you will be accompanied by highly trained guides and drivers. Your guides are very knowledgeable about the animals you will encounter, and will be able to teach all about the animals’ different behaviours and lifestyles. Not only will you get the chance to come across the Big Five (lions, leopards, rhinos, elephants and Cape buffalos), but you will also come in contact with two rare monkey species known as the red tail monkey and the blue monkey. If you are lucky, you may even get to witness a pack of endangered African wild dogs.

Children of all ages are welcomed at Kichwa Tembo, and the camp has a range of activities specially tailored depending on children’s ages. Kichwa Tembo offers a WildChild programme where children can gain an authentic safari experience with activities ranging from wildlife tracking, fishing, frog safaris, birdwatching, crafting traditional bow and arrows, and you can even book a family game drive or a special one-hour children’s bush walks within the camp perimeter, with activity books provided.

Please be aware that this trip is split into two different itineraries; a Classic Safari Tour and a Superior Safari Tour. Both itineraries offer guests exciting and exhilarating activities and adventures to explore. If you choose the Classic tour you will be staying in a classic tent, however, if you chose the Superior Tour you will be accommodated in a superior tent which is more spacious and has scenic views, along with extra activities added to your stay.

Maasai Mara Game Reserve

The Maasai Mara Game Reserve is home to over 400 different bird species, including raptors, vultures, kori bustards and Narina trogons. The stunning birdlife is most prolific during Kenya’s green season (November to May), when the vegetation is lush and overgrown. The diverse landscape of the Maasai Mara is ideal for many different species as birds are able to access both the river, trees and plains. The dry season begins around June, as the flora dies up and the game congregates around the river and waterholes. Herds of elephant, giraffe, zebra and buffalo will gather together, providing incredible game viewing and luring in predators such as lions and cheetahs.

Late September/October sees the return of the Great Wildebeest Migration. Millions of wildebeest will chase their dwindling food supply from Serengeti to the Maasai Mara. During their 1800 mile journey, hundreds of thousands of wildebeest will perish. They must evade predators along the open plains, and avoid crocodiles lurking in treacherous rivers. Vultures soar above, waiting for those who will not be able to complete their journey to fall. The experience is incredible and like nothing else.
