Le Jardin du Roy, Madagascar

Le Jardin du Roy is located on the southern boundary of Isalo National Park in the south west Ihorombe Reigon of Madagascar. Created in 1962 and traditionally inhabited by the nomadic cattle farming Bara people, Isalo contains ecoregions home to numerous endangered endemic species and has some of the largest intact areas of tapia woodlands. Several species of lemur and over 100 birds, 24 amphibians and 47 reptiles have been recorded in the area, making it excellent for spotting wildlife.

From the Ivato International Airport, guests can take a 1-hour domestic flight to Tulear, then drive 240km to Le Jardin du Roy. Guests are also just minutes drive away from the Malaso Circuit Trail Start, Botanic Park, and a little further out the Boot of Isalo Trail, making this an ideal location for hikers.

Double and Triple Bedrooms

The luxurious rooms can sleep 2 or 3 guests and feature polished wooden floors, granite walls and red accents that mirror the bougainvillaea in the hotel’s garden. All rooms have a small veranda and sitting area. Each air conditioned ensuite room has a spacious bathroom and laundry facilities. The comfortable beds are covered in full-length mosquito netting for extra peace of mind.

Family Bedrooms

The picturesque bungalows with thatched roofs and bougainvillaea snaking around the cobblestones are ideal for families. All rooms have a small veranda and sitting area. Each air conditioned ensuite room has a spacious bathroom and laundry facilities. The comfortable beds are covered in full-length mosquito netting for extra peace of mind.

Le Jardin de Roy has an impressive restaurant with locally sourced food. The organic farm features a variety of fruit trees and vegetable patches which supply the hotel with fresh ingredients, as well as beehives to help pollinate crops all year round. Enjoy delicious combinations of European and Malagasy cuisine courtesy of Le Jardin de Roy’s talented chefs, inside a cosy atmosphere complete with a warming fireplace. Dietary requirements can be accommodated for with prior notice.

On-site activities

The tennis court is available to guests as well as the well-equipped horse riding stable. The Isalo’s sweeping panoramas and sandstone formations are something to behold, and guided walks, rides or hikes through the picturesque park can be organised by Le Jardin du Roy’s attentive concierge. Guests can also take out the mountain bikes or quad bikes available to traverse Isalo’s rocky terrain.

Otherwise, guests can relax in the hotel’s bar or indulge in the hotel’s on-site Brigitte Spa facilities, before cooling off in the large swimming pool or sunbathing on its surrounding patio.

Via Ferrata

The ‘vertigo hike’ promises breath-taking views of the hotel below and is carried out by professional climbing guides from France. Optimum safety is ensured and all equipment is provided.

Sapphire Mines

Ilakala Mines have the largest sapphire deposit in the world. Guests can visit the part-exhibition part-saleroom of ShowRoom Colour Line, the hotel’s partner who has specialised in precious stone cutting and jewellery manufacturing for decades. Marvel at the collection of sapphires, tourmalines, amethysts and garnets.

Isalo Bio

Isalo Bio is the five-hectare farm that supplies both Le Jardin du Roy and Relais de la Reine with fruit, vegetables and honey. Only biological farming techniques are used, with both tropical and European fruits and vegetables grown and beehives that supply honey and keep crops pollinated year round. Guests are welcome to visit and discover the variety of produce on the farm.

The hotel is supplied with fresh fruit, vegetables and honey from the Islao Bio farm which uses only biological farming techniques. This cuts down on transport emissions and helps local business, while adding authenticity to the restaurant’s Malagasy cuisine.

All children are welcome. One child under 2 years stays free of charge in a child’s cot/crib. All children under 2 years stay free of charge when using existing beds. There is no capacity for extra beds in the rooms.
