Roving Bushtops’ Luxury Safari Tents feature a large, spacious bedroom with luxurious furnishings and a private en-suite bathroom, complete with a relaxing bathtub. The tents are set on wheels, meaning they can easily be rearranged and combined to cater for large groups and families. Double beds can be replaced with singles, and additional beds can be provided.

Guests can enjoy three delicious meals each day, including light breakfasts, mouth-watering lunches and gourmet dinners. Enjoy the stunning views of the Serengeti plains as you experience the chef’s local recipes and comforting dishes. Witness lions, leopards, elephants, buffalo, wildebeest and zebra in their natural habitat from the comfort of a specially designed safari vehicle. Guests can choose to embark on an early morning game drive when predators are most active, or an afternoon drive that concludes as the sunset leaves trails of orange, red and pink in the lavender sky while the silhouettes of wandering giraffes pass along the horizon. Serengeti’s spectacular wildlife is not just limited to the Great Migration and year-round guests can expect incredible game viewing including Seronera’s thriving cheetah population and the Big 5.

Balloon safaris offer guests a chance to have a bird’s eye view of the Serengeti plains, hills and woodlands, allowing you to take in the vast landscape and view the incredible wildlife from above as you follow herds of wildebeest across the grasslands. Float silently over prowling predators and grazing impala without the noises of an engine to disrupt the game, and view the bush from an entirely new perspective.

Explore the bush without the sound of an engine, and follow clues to exciting game viewing. The Kuria guards and spotters will help you to find incredible wildlife while keeping you safe. Nature walks take place within the camp’s grounds and each trip spans between 20-45 minutes. Walks focus on the smaller species that are often forgotten or disregarded, including birds and insects. However, lucky guests may also get to experience a close encounter with larger game and predators.

Guest can experience the stunning African sunrise while enjoying a mouth-watering hot meal and breakfast buffet in the heart of the bush. Roving Bushtops supports Robanda School and the local children who receive an education there. Guests are able to take a tour of the school, where you can meet the teachers and pupils, and view the facilities. Robanda School receives a combination of sponsorships and donations, allowing the children to continue to learn and develop their minds, leading to a brighter future and career prospects.

While visits can usually be arranged when the camp is within Central Serengeti, guests will not be able to visit the school when the camp is moving or during the school holidays. Guests hoping to experience an insightful tour of the school should notify the camp in advance to ensure that this will be possible. Robanda School is located on the western edge of Serengeti National Park and can be reached within 75 minutes by car. This also allows guests to admire the scenery and look out for game, as well as take in more of the Serengeti landscape.

Experience pure relaxation as you sit back around a smouldering campfire with a refreshing cocktail in your hand. Watch as the sun dips below the distant hills, leaving a blaze of colour in its wake, and turning the landscape a dusky lavender. Roving Bushtops is part of Bushtops Safari Camps, who work in collaboration with local tribes in the areas in which they operate to build a sustainable future while respecting the tribes, their rights and their culture. Roving Bushtops work with Kuria tribesmen to monitor wildlife and protect them from poachers, utilising the tribesmen’s knowledge of the wildlife and landscape in order to protect creatures from the threat posed by humanity. This also provides an income for the tribesmen and their families.

Bushtops Safari Camps works with local schools in order to provide children with both primary and secondary education. Their support has meant that children have been able to learn about food hygiene, gender equality and environmental issues. Bushtops have also created a mentorship programme to help nurture young minds. In addition, Bushtops encourages schoolchildren to support an environmental club where they can plant trees and star pupils are offered the opportunity to enjoy a tour of Serengeti National Park. The educational trip also allows children to visit Roving Bushtops for a delicious lunch, before a tour of the camp. This helps children to understand the importance and benefits of conservation and supporting wildlife.

‘Sponsorship from our guests and our own efforts have put literally hundreds of children through education, at schools near all three of our camps. At Mara Bushtops we have piped water from a spring six kilometres away, funded and refurbished a classroom to create and equip a computer lab, donated a new classroom within a new 3-classroom block and helped to fund the ongoing building of a new dining hall.’

Pack for a Purpose is an initiative that encourages guests to utilise their spare suitcase space by bringing useful supplies that can benefit the local community. Roving Bushtops is part of Pack for a Purpose, and gratefully takes donations of pens, paper, clothes and footballs, which are then taken to both of Robanda’s schools and used by the local children. This project helps to provide necessities that aid the education of young minds, impacting families from disadvantaged households in a positive way.

Bushtops Safari Camps use clean and renewable energy when possible in order to reduce carbon emissions and pollution. Additionally, Bushtops Safari Camps limit the amount of waste that their camps produce with their recycling programmes and by ordering supplies in bulk to reduce packaging.

‘We manage local resources – water, energy and waste – with the greatest of care. Mara Bushtops, for example, runs on 32 photovoltaic solar panels and a large bank of special batteries, which generates enough power and hot water to run the camp for 20 hours on an average day. A back-up generator ensures seamless, continuous comfort for our guests. Our biodegradable waste is composted, whilst other waste is sent for recycling. To minimize packaging we buy supplies in bulk and transport goods in reusable boxes. We avoid plastic where possible and conserve water through wetland filtration and recycling.’
