Travel has always been in my blood. I was both born and started school abroad due to my Dad’s work and I haven’t really looked back since. I was lucky enough through my childhood to spend time on holiday or live in some incredible places, particularly Bermuda which I think gave me the opportunity to explore and appreciate other cultures.
After studying languages and business at 6th form college and then tourism management at university in Newcastle, I took the opportunity to spend a year travelling and working in Australia and New Zealand. This year away really opened my eyes as to what was out there and how we should travel in the future.
I had never been keen on package holidays as such, I wanted to get out there and meet the locals, visit markets and see the ‘real’ country or region that I was in at the time. My next trip was to spend 6 months travelling around South America. I had always wanted to visit Peru and Patagonia but as I found out, there is much more to this incredible continent than that. I was fascinated by the culture and traditions and felt welcome wherever I went. I spent time with a family on Lake Titicaca and could see the benefit of tourism to local communities if done in the right way.
I then spent a month in India and Nepal travelling by train before starting a role inspiring those to take time out of their lives to travel the world, work and volunteer abroad and make some incredible memories before starting University or coming back to work.
In 2018 I began a role as an African tour specialist where I first met Darren and honed my skills in the luxury sector. Piecing together bespoke itineraries and getting the feedback that it had been on an unforgettable trip of a lifetime that opened their eyes to what is out there is the most rewarding thing about working in travel in my opinion.
“I have been lucky enough to see a lot of places in the world whether it is a city break in Europe or a familiarisation trip to Thailand. Travel is my passion but now it is more important than ever that it is done in the right way and having a hand in that is an incredible platform to have.”
At the beginning of 2020 I joined Darren at the Pure Breaks as a Business Development and Sales Executive before becoming the Business Development Manager later in the year. I love that I have the opportunity to form long term partnerships with Operators around the world who have the same sustainable ethos that we do and by working with them, create some amazing itineraries that we can offer.
