Located in the heart of “Araucanía”, in Chile’s Lake District, is the exceptional andBeyond Vira Vira. Luxurious grounds boast both a magnificent lodge and Hacienda with beautifully appointed suites and villas. A modern working farm, organic vegetable garden and state-of-the-art cheese factory complete the sprawling 22-hectare estate that is set just outside of Pucón, Chile. Freshly grown produce is sourced from the farm, creating award-winning Chilean-inspired menus.

The Lake District in Chile is a region of lush farmland, dense forest, snow capped volcanoes and clear lakes. which are largely hidden in the mountains. It was once inhabited by the Mapuche “people of the land”, who fought off the Inca and resisted Spanish attempts at colonisation for 350 years before finally falling to the Chilean Army in the 1880s.

Ideally appointed accommodation, overlooking either the estate surrounds or the Liucura River, awaits the guests of this property. Within the hotel, guests can chose from six cosy suites, 12 split-level villas with a separate living room, and a five-bedroom, sole-use Hacienda for up to 10 guests. Ensuite bathrooms include a separate bath and walk-in shower. Floor to ceiling windows fills the spacious wooden interiors with natural light. Each guest unit is individually decorated with a selection of curated objects and richly-textured rugs, wall hangings and fabric.
The &Beyond Vira Vira restaurant serves up local sourced products, which are vegetarian friendly and contemporary international and french cuisines.
Situated in a breathtaking park, featuring natural lagoons, flowing rivers and sensational views of the Villarrica Volcano, guests can enjoy myriad exploits, hosted by knowledgeable and engaging guides. These include trekking in the national parks; horseback riding in the cordilleras; scenic helicopter flights over the Villarrica Volcano; skiing, snowboarding, snowshoeing or snowmobiling in winter. Temuco is the largest city in the Lake District. Most visitors use it solely as a transport hub or as a base for exploring nearby Parque Nacional Conguillío. However, the city itself has a rich Mapuche heritage, particularly which stands out in and around the colourful markets. The diagonal Avenida Caupolicán separates the city’s quiet and exclusive residential districts to the west. Travel to Temuco’s centre and you’ll find the relaxing Plaza Aníbal Pinto, luxuriant with fine native and imported trees, set off by a large monument depicting the struggle between the Spanish and the Mapuche Indians.
Explore the fascinating cultural and culinary heritage of Chile’s indomitable Mapuche people. Enjoy lunch at a traditional ruka (house) and learn about their unique ways of life first hand. Visit a Mapuche weaver and watch her time-honoured traditional skill as she works with the loom.
