Awasi Patagonia Lodge
Awasi Patagonia lies within the Torres del Paine national park, one of the largest reserves in Chile and part of Chilean Patagonia – a ‘bucket-list’ destination for many hikers, climbers and adventurers alike, due to its stunning natural wildlife. Declared by National Geographic as the 5th most beautiful place in the world, there’s a choice of landscapes with valleys of wildflowers, majestic tall trees and the sparkling glaciers of the three ancient ‘Torres’ mountains – the park’s main attraction with its tallest summit reaching over 9,000 feet. Expect sightings of guanacos, foxes, pumas and the endangered Chilean Huemul, as well as over 15 birds of prey.
To get to Awasi Patagonia, private transfers to and from the Puerto Natales airport are provided subject to availability, which is about 2 hours away from the lodging. The helpful team can help with alternative transfers from Punta Arenas (5hrs), or El Cafate in Argentina (5hrs).

The spacious 80sqm villas are inspired by ranching outposts and Patagonian shelters, and make for an atmospheric and authentic stay out in the wilderness. With their own wood-burning fireplaces and central heating, the villas are ready for Patagonia’s cold, while the rustic outdoor hot tub is perfect for unwinding on milder evenings in front of the stunning forest, lake and mountain vistas. Each lodge is positioned to ensure privacy and quiet while offering the best views of Torres del Paine and was consciously constructed with locally procured wood and built on stilts for minimal impact, the structures blend beautifully into the natural landscape.
Each villa has a choice of comfortable king or twin beds and an adjoining seating area. The ensuite bathroom features a separate bathtub and shower and amenities such as bathrobes, slippers, toiletries and a hairdryer are provided. The villas are a short distance from the common areas including the restaurant, but each room has its own minibar for quick refreshments.
An extra bed can be added at an additional cost in select villas. There is also a master villa available, consisting of two suites, a living area, a covered terrace, and an outdoor hot tub. Internet is only available in the main lodge, so guests can enjoy a wi-fi detox and take in the sights of Chilean Patagonia uninterrupted.
Guests can enjoy a variety of seasonal, fresh and sophisticated meals courtesy of Chef Fabrizio Aciares at Awasi Patagonia’s atmospheric restaurant. Promising ‘a hint of Patagonia in every dish’, expect inspired concoctions of local produce infused with Chilean flavours.
Awasi Patagonia offers a wide range of private excursions, personalised and organised according to your interests, fitness levels and general preferences. Excursions are divided into half-day excursions (between 2-5 hours) and full-day excursions (between 6-10 hours). Each villa is assigned its own 4WD vehicle and a personal guide who can recommend the best activities to make your trip to Patagonia unique.
Awasi is committed to protecting the environments that their three South American properties reside in, while focusing on their natural and cultural heritage. This means a focus on the conservation of ecosystems, the reintroduction of native species and the implementation of educational and artistic initiatives within local communities. Details about the Awasi Foundation and its projects are available on its website.
Awasi makes an effort to follow the United Nations 17 objectives, such as the following;
- No Poverty: this is done by employing local people at their lodges, with each of the three hotels generating approximately 100 jobs for people from the area. Unused and surplus supplies are also donated locally to those in need.
- Zero hunger: employees are offered food of the highest quality which encourages consumption of seasonal produce and supports small local suppliers, who often rely on commerce for business. Staff also benefit from a healthy, balanced diet.
- Quality Education: with the slower pace of tourism, Awasi has made the most of that time to further educate their team. One of the long-term initiatives is language classes for all staff and their children, as well as workshops in story-telling, art, history, first aid, cooking, housekeeping, maintenance and well-being. The Awasi Guide School has also been successfully operated for many years.
- Gender Equality: Awasi has more female than male management staff and pays equal wages to staff regardless of gender.

All food is seasonal and locally-sourced where possible to minimise food miles, and yoghurts, juices and granolas served at breakfast are prepared fresh on-site each morning. Chefs also produce their own jams, pickles, snacks, infusions and syrups. A la carte meals and shortened menus mean tailored luxury, but also no oversized buffet spreads leading to food waste. The kitchen gardens use organic waste to produce compost and fertiliser to help grow more locally sourced ingredients.
Vendors and suppliers are selected based on the quantity of packaging used to further reduce waste, and plastic straws have been eliminated throughout all hotels. In the bathrooms, refillable bottles for toiletries reduce the use of disposable dispensers and mini-bottles. In addition, most personal hygiene and cleaning products at the hotel are biodegradable. Reusable water bottles are supplied to all guests and filtered water dispensers are installed in common areas to minimise the use of disposable plastic bottles. Furthermore, each lodge gets its water from its own well, and each hotel has its own water treatment plant, which helps reduce water waste greatly.
Children must be above 10 years of age to stay at Awasi Patagonia. Guests over the age of 18 are considered adults.
