Patagonia is often described as a magical place, with its jagged snow capped mountains, crisp fresh air, and wealth of wildlife. Eolo Lodge has a prime location in the heart of this wilderness – just a few miles away from the rugged Andes mountain range and a short drive from the beautiful Los Glaciares National Park. Travellers to the park can explore areas of grassy foothills, hike across pathways in the sides of mountains, and explore the nearby azure Lago Argentino.
With over 500 species of animals, travellers are likely to spot some native wonders including pumas, deers, foxes, skunks, wild cats, armadillos, flamingos, and spectacled ducks. There are over 400 species of recorded birds – making this a perfect destination for a keen birder – including striped woodpeckers, rufous tailed plantcutters, Patagonian Sierra finches, and the magnificent birds of prey such as peregrine falcons and Andean condors.

All the suites at Eolo have been designed in a contemporary way, with antique furniture, a muted colour palette of beiges and browns which creates an atmosphere of relaxation and simplicity while keeping guests focused on their stunning surroundings – visible through wide windows. Guests will have a view of the lake or cordillera, and both are as breathtaking as each other! Comfortable beds sit in the centre of the suites, covered in crisp white bed linen. A cosy seating area opposite the windows offer guests a place to unwind and relax as they gaze over the magical scenery.
The Superior Rooms can offer a triple arrangement, the Premium Rooms come complete with an extra window which gives guests a secondary view of the beautiful hotel gardens, as well as an extra bed being able to be added. The Corner Rooms are the most exclusive at Eolo and include a double window in the corner, allowing a panoramic sense of the sweeping landscape.
Meals at Eolo are prepared by executive chef, Juan Pablo Bonaveri, who uses local and fresh ingredients to create dishes which blend a range of cuisines. Meals are enjoyed in the main dining room which has wide windows which fill the room with natural light and offer sweeping views of the rugged landscape as you dine. Dinners are paired with delicious wines, which all come from Argentinian wineries.
The greatest attraction in the area and only a 50 minute ride from the hotel. Once inside the National Park, with a few options which may be chosen. Main viewpoint plus walkways in front of the glacier, short duration boat cruise along the glacier’s front wall, trekking or walking on the ice using crampons. The latter alternative may be of a short or long duration, depending on preferences.
While staying at Eolo guests will have the opportunity to explore the breathtaking landscapes. There are a variety of ways to do this, from treks with a friendly guide, mountain biking across the rolling grasslands, grabbing a pair of binoculars and looking to the sky for a spot of birdwatching, a 4×4 tour which will take guests trundling across the foothills, or a zip-line is available for the adrenaline seeking guests. Another unique way to explore the surroundings is on horse, where you can immerse yourself in the patagonian way of life while heading to the Flamingos’ lagoon.
The Upsala glacier is the largest glacier that flows from the Lago Argentino and the Spegazzini is one of the most impactful. Access to these is only a 30 minute ride from EOLO to Puerto Punta Bandera. Once in Punta Bandera, there are many options: a choice of boats allow for the possibility of navigating Lago Argentino through its icebergs, you can also visit old, traditional estancias; ride on four wheel drive vehicles through the area, kayak on the lake or trek in this beautiful setting.
El Chalten is the national trekking capital and the perfect destination from which to see and admire. Mount Fitz Roy, Cerro Torre, Viedma Glacier and Lago del Desierto. The town is two and a half hours away. Those who wish to experience this adventure but prefer not to stay overnight in El Chaltén have the option of doing it as a daylong excursion. Guests who have more time may add other alternatives like four wheel drive tours, a visit to the Ice Museum (Glaciarium), hiking in the Roca Lake area, fly fishing or a city tour of El Calafate.
Children over the age of 12 are welcomed at Eolo.
