As part of the Natural Selection Foundation, Etosha Mountain Lodge prides itself on providing guests with unforgettable safari experiences, while also actively helping to conserve African wildlife. That is why 1.5% of every person’s stay goes towards wildlife and habitat conservation. These donations are built into the business model, and are at the centre of everything the foundation does.
In Namibia 15.7% of the country’s population is employed within the tourism industry, a vital economic lifeline, as one employed person typically supports seven other people. That is why, in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic. The Etosha Mountain Lodge and the Natural Selection Foundation have formed a support program for remote villages around Namibia and Botswana. As well as delivering food parcels, the foundation partnered with Coaching Conservation to provide villages with vital healthcare information on how to stay protected and safe during the pandemic.
Within the private reserve of Etosha Heights, highly trained rangers work within the anti-poaching camp to protect and preserve the precious rhino population from illegal hunting. “Combined with the new state of the art anti-poaching surveillance technology, this team is a force to be reckoned with”.
Monitoring wildlife is a vital part of their protection, but this can be incredibly costly in both time and resources. This is why Etosha Mountain Lodge and all Natural Selection Foundation properties have partnered with Citizen-Science, a growing initiative that uses tourist shots of wildlife in the effort to track precious species across the continent. This works by uploading your holiday pictures to the Citizen-Science platform, and providing the location of the shot. This way the scientists who receive the images can better understand the magnificent animals you spotted.
