The detailed history of the hotel is based from 1640, when the Jesuits reached the Cotopaxi Valley at the foot of a Volcano. The eruptions that occurred some years ago made the valley fill with volcanic stones, thus giving the name of Pedregal (valley of rocks). The Jesuit community lived for a long time on an area of more than 60,000 hectares. During their stay they built a church and a stone house which they used for their prayers. The Jesuits were the first to import fighting cattle and they distributed them throughout their lands to feel protected and to take care of their lands. The Hacienda house has the same name as the town and the lands, “Santa Ana del Pedregal”. Steeped in history this hotel offers the opportunity to step back in time and connect historical travellers to the this region.
