One Horizon

One Horizon is a humanitarian, non-profit organisation founded in 2007 that works to combat poverty, especially in cases of women and children. They embrace the model of sustainable tourism and bringing communities together so that the most vulnerable and disadvantaged can still have bright futures ahead of them. Since 2007, One Horizon has helped thousands of people in ways such as:

  • Operating over 20 rescue centres for children in and around Nairobi
  • Sustaining a food program that feeds over 2000 children per day
  • Developing a program for women’s empowerment and financial independence

The Hemingways Collection supports One Horizon and their goals in two ways – staff/guest visits and supplying food. Staff and guests can visit the different centres around Nairobi where they can spend time with the women and children and participate in activities supporting the centre such as ‘organising and recording health checks, helping prepare and serve lunches, supporting art and crafts classes and physical education and exercises’. Visiting fees go directly to the programs. The hotel also supplies much needed food supplies to One Horizon so they can continue with their food program.

Community Rugby Association

The Community Rugby Association (CRA) was founded in 2008 with the aim of connecting with children from disadvantaged backgrounds and giving them a positive hobby where they could develop skills and healthy habits, make friends and keep fit. The CRA has been organising rugby matches and teams for different age groups of children from in/around the urban slums of Nairobi and training in held in large open fields in the wider Nairobi area on weekends.

The Hemingways Collection supports the CRA by continually giving them financial aid so that they can achieve their vision of helping vulnerable children and expanding into a national program with enough resources to allow talented children to progress into formal rugby clubs and teams.
