Hotel La Purificadora Puebla

The new incarnation of a late 19th century factory once used for water purification, Hotel La Purificadora incorporates the old to make a new, bespoke holiday destination, which is both sleek and minimalist yet full of character and natural finishes. Located in the historic centre of Puebla, a colonial city on the road between Mexico City and Oaxaca, the hotel is a short distance from historical and cultural attractions, waiting to be explored on foot or on the hotel’s free bicycles. Carefully designed by Ricardo and Victor Legorrata, the old exposed stone echoes the building’s roots, while modern twists like the glass-walled swimming pool enhance the clean, airy feeling throughout the property. The hotel features a rustic library, bright restaurant, indulgent spa and invigorating gym, and its breath-taking terrace with panoramic views has a rooftop bar perfect for sundowners.

Callejón de la 10 Norte 802, Barrio del Alto, Puebla, Mexico

La Purificadora is just a 14 minute walk from the Puebla Cathedral and the Museo Amparo, which contains over 3,500 pieces of pre-Columbian, 19th century viceroyal and contemporary art. The street Callejón de los Sapos (or ‘alley of the frogs’) is just over 10 minutes away on foot, and makes for a wonderful stroll through the colourful buildings, antique shops and markets, while also becoming a lively musical area at night time. Just up the road guests can find Biblioteca Palafoxiana, the first library in the American continent that dates back to the 17th century and is home to over 43,000 books.
