Salar de Uyuni in Bolivia was established in 1998 by the wild initiative of an hidalgo man named Juan Quesada Valda. A pioneer in the salt hotels worldwide, Juan’s innovative and creative idea of building a hotel 100% made of salt (walls, ceilings, tables, chairs and others) was materialized in what he called Palacio de Sal. With a unique and sui generis architecture, its objective was to provide to the visitors of the salt flats a place to find a balance with nature and enjoy a pleasant and unforgettable rest.

Hotel Palacio de Sal is located on the shores of the marvellous Salar de Uyuni, in a gracious white desert that is painted with colours of the sunset and of the sunrise. There are three categories of room options for guests to enjoy. The Standard Room, is perfect for enjoying the unique experience of sleeping in the tranquility of a salt igloo, where everything around you is made entirely out of salt, such as the ceiling, walls, bed, etc.
Next, there is the Suite Room, a spacious room, with dome-shaped ceilings formed with blocks of salt, where you can enjoy a unique view of the Salar and its surroundings, either from the comfort of your bed or the living area.
Finally, there is the VIP Room. They provide a small living room, where you enjoy a beautiful view of the desert landscapes around the hotel. Palacio De Sal thrive on keeping there guest happy so they implemented a outdoor patio in the VIP room, so that guest can smoke in peace while enjoying the spectacular starry sky of Uyuni.
Hotel Palacio de Sal provide a beautiful restaurant called “El Mesón,” an elegent and stately place, at the height of a Palace, where all the sense are stimulated. You will receive the most magical evening and delightful flavours and fine dining. El Mesón wanted to exploit all 5 senses to create the most enchanted atmosphere within the restaurant, which combines the finest of the gastronomic traditions of the place and expanded their latest cooking techniques to bring to the table and serve the best gourmet and symbolic food in the area, without having to leave the hotel.
The primary attraction of the area is the Salar de Uyuni. Located in the Daniel Campos province of the department of Potosí, within the highland region of the Andes Mountains, at more than 3,650 meters above sea level and with its 12,000 km2 of surface, it is considered the largest and most spectacular continuous salt desert in the world. A majestic place, with impressive sunrises and sunsets, where the wind sings a soft melody, which in combination with the imposing whiteness of the landscape, is capable of exalting all the senses, turning each moment into a magical memory.
The creator Juan Quesada Valda who designed Hotel Palacio de Sal constructed the hotel with salts instead of importing concrete to build the hotel. Juan Quesada Valda established that he will build the hotel with the only local resource which was salt. The walls, floors, ceiling and even the furniture (beds, chair, table and even couches) are assembled out of 1 million 35 centimetres salt blocks which is recognised and easily visible.
