Illa Experience

Illa Experience Hotel is located in the close-knit, arts neighbourhood of San Marcos, at the heart of Quito’s historic centre – the world’s first UNESCO World Heritage Site. Guests can stay in this warm and lively quarter, a fine representation of early 20th century Quito mansions, with a variety of rooms and suites of distinct styles. Each room is equipped with a private bathroom, a TV with cable channels, a minibar, a hairdryer and internet access. Guests can enjoy a variety of mouth-watering cuisines at the award-winning Nuema restaurant. The hotel also offers a range of cultural experiences with local Quiteño people.

Suites

The hotel’s three floors each reflect a different aesthetic: republican, colonial and contemporary, while each room on the floor takes in a different perspective on the surrounding Quito. These suites overlook the Calle Junín and the life that throngs within its buildings and on its pavements. The floor space is 37 square metres.

Master Suite

The Master Suites enjoy a stunning view of the Quito rooftops leading up to Virgen of Panecillo. Each suite differs in style depending on the floor on which it is located, varying from Republican to Colonial or Contemporary aesthetics. The floor space is 42 square metres.

Luxury Rooms

Illa Experience’s Luxury Rooms feature a variety of views and one has been specially adapted for disabled guests. Each room features either a double or two twin beds and varies in style depending on the floor on which it is located. The floor space is 29 square metres.

Nuema Restaurant

Nuema is an award-winning restaurant beloved by hotel guests and Quiteños alike. The head chef trained with Gastón Acurio in Perú and Quito and is a founding member of Panela, a collective of chefs that work with local ingredients.

Ecuador’s cuisine reflects the richness of its history and natural environment, with offerings from tropical fruits and vegetables to fresh seafood and Spanish influences. Nuema takes traditional flavours and methods, innovating and executing with precision to create unparalleled dishes that excite and delight.

One of the advantages of being a boutique hotel with few guests is that Illa can devote time to creating unique experiences for each person that comes to visit. These are usually in conjunction with local experts and offer visitors a unique insight into the culture and everyday lives of Quito residents. Experiences might include enjoying authentic Ecuadorian hot chocolate, learning how a straw hat is made, a watercolour masterclass or learning about other fascinating aspects of the culture here.

Illa Experience knows that guests want access to the real Quito, and that the city’s people are what have made it the historic city of culture that it is today. They platform local individuals and experts through the experiences offered to guests, providing a source of income and allowing Quito’s traditions to persist. As well as this, the hotel invests a certain amount of its income back into the community.

Eco-friendly practices

Illa Experience has taken several steps to reduce the impact of the hotel on the environment. These include reducing food waste, eliminating single-use plastic items such as straws, bottles and cutlery, using water-efficient toilets and allowing guests to opt-out of daily room cleaning. Food is organic and locally sourced as much as possible and the use of motion sensors, double-glazed windows and energy-efficient bulbs reduce the hotel’s energy consumption.
