Jackalberry Tented Camp

Jackalberry Camp offers just four exclusive luxury tents on the entire property, making this an incredibly private place to stay. Each room is equipped with facilities such as side lamps, charging ports, a coffee and tea station and electricity that is generated via solar power, making this an incredibly eco-friendly safari experience. Each room is made of customised large tents with an average space of 32.4m. Not only are the rooms spacious, but their location offers guests breath taking views that overlook the lagoons. Each luxury tents also has its own private bathroom. One of the highlights of this stay is that animals roam freely around the camp, meaning you can see magnificent wildlife right on your doorstep.

The central main area of the camp contains a bar, dining room, lounge and kitchen.

A game drive takes guests on a tour of the bush and gives them the chance to immerse within the wildlife. Getting up close and personal to magnificent creatures such as elephants alongside a guide is an experience not to be forgotten. This is a drive that last two hours and thirty minutes, leaving enough time for truly taking in all the natural surrounding beauty.

A night drive takes guests on a tour of the bush once night falls and gives them the chance to immerse within the wildlife in a completely unique way. Getting up close and personal to these magnificent nocturnal creatures under the starry African sky is an exhilarating experience that will stay with you forever.

This two and a half hour trip takes guests on an exclusive cruise on the Kwando-Linyanti river system, which is one of the highlights of the area. The wilderness of one of the most unexplored areas of Southern Africa is a real sight to behold. A boat cruise can also be combine with a game drive should you wish to have longer to roam in the wilderness.

Close by is the local community village, Sheshe. Taking a trip here allows visitors to experience how locals live and see the real village day to day life in such a remote part of the world. This trip is approximately three hours and is a fantastic way to immerse within local culture.

More than 95% of the lodge employees are from the local community.

Jackalberry Lodge is committed to purchasing as many of its goods and services locally to support the surrounding community.

Jackalberry Tented Camp provides extensive training to increase service standards in the area. Their JV Agreement formally commits that the lodge continuously trains and enhances the skill base of the local community staff members.

The lodge believes in promoting and enhancing their eco-friendly practices and responsibilities to its guests, visitors and staff. This is to increase the awareness of the urgency to be responsible for the surrounding environment.

The lodge has been certified with five out of five Flowers from the Eco Awards Namibia in 2016.

Jackalberry Camp is 100% solar powered, taking advantage of the naturally hot climate. Both electricity and hot water is provided using solar power. Energy usage within the camp is also monitored to see where it can be reduced for both staff and guests.

The main building, staff village and luxury tents have all been built utilising local natural materials whenever possible as well as using recycled iron and drums, PVC pipes, steel and canvas whilst the use of paint and varnish was also minimised. This has allowed the property to maintain architectural integrity with the surrounding area as well as the local style. During the building process, local builder and labourers were hired to improve the employment in the area and the construction serves as a fine example of sustainable construction.

The washing soap, bathroom products and toilet paper are all biodegradable, leaving no mark on the delicate and beautiful surrounding environment.

The lodge monitors its energy usage to minimise their consumption across the property, measuring usage of both the staff as well as the guests.

A fill environmental impact assessment has been conducted and approved by MET (Ministry of Environment and Tourism) on site of construction, ensuring that procedures and standards have been met in aid of environmental protection.
