Konkamoya Lodge, P.O. Box 29, Itezhi Tezhi, Zambia
Kafue National Park is one of the largest national parks in the whole of Africa, and is the largest in Zambia. Sat in the centre, it covers an astonishing 22,400 kilometres² of land and its founding date of 1924 also makes it the oldest national park in Zambia. For its age, the park is largely unknown, untouched and unexplored. The size allows the park to encompass a diverse selection of animals species, flora, fauna, and landscapes. Every day in Kafue National Park is an adventure, with new animals spotted and new paths found.
The park is a birders paradise, with over 500 species including bee-eaters, Chaplin’s Barbet and Pel’s fishing owl to name a few. One of the most impressive parts of the park is the diverse range of ungulates it holds. Antelope, red lechwe, roan and sable all inhabit the park, as well as animals such as wildebeest, elephant, bushbuck, buffalo, lion, leopard and cheetah. All these animals roam the rolling grasslands and open plains, and hippos may be seen in the winding waterways and deep blue lagoons. Guests can access Konkamoya Lodge by flying into Kenneth Kaunda International Airport and then getting a private transfer to the lodge.

The tents are large and spacious, with floor to ceiling windows flooding the space with natural light, and draped ceilings making the space feel soft and warm, with the help of softly glowing lanterns in the evening.
A large bed sits in the middle of the tent, covered with crisp white linen and a feature bed runner. Walking safaris can be arranged for guests. There is no better way to feel closer to nature than exploring it on foot. With a guide, guests can focus on the smaller things of Kafue, from animal tracks to micro-ecosystems and can keep their eyes peeled for one of the many species of bird too. Whilst a smaller area may be covered, guests will have an intimate knowledge of the surrounding flora and fauna, and will be able to explore smaller paths than on a game drive.

Recently renovated, Konkamoya Lodge is predominantly made from recycled and eco-friendly materials. It is also designed to blend into the environment and the aim is that if ever the camp has to move locations, they could do so without leaving a big imprint on the land.
Harnessing the natural rays of the sun, Konkamoya Lodge has solar panels which turns these rays into energy for lightbulbs, charging points and wifi. This is a renewable form of energy and reduces their carbon footprint as they don’t have a reliance on fossil fuels. Also notably absent from the lodge is a generator, so the surroundings ate kept quiet of man made noise and the wildlife of the area is not disturbed.
