The bathrooms are set off to the side, providing more privacy, whilst ensuring unobstructed views of the plain. Evening breeze cooling units have been installed for maximum comfort in the hotter months – these units along with the rest of the camp are solar-powered.

Deluxe Suites

The two private deluxe suites maximise the prime locations and are situated at the end of the camp. They are similar in design to the luxury suites; however, they are larger and feature a secluded outdoor bathtub. The Deluxe Suite can be set up as either twin or double, an extra bed can be added to accommodate a young child. The honeymoon deluxe suite has one king-sized bed and an exquisite, large wrap-around deck offering 180-degree views of the plain. It is the furthest suite from the main area of the camp, its seclusion makes it perfect for couples and honeymooners. The honeymoon boasts a sumptuous new addition, the beautiful “galaxy” sleep-out deck.

Lion Camp Dining

Authenticity defines the cookery here at the camp, the African-fusion themes, sourced from home-grown and local ingredients are the base of the lovingly prepared meals. Be it breakfast, lunch, or a romantic dinner, the chefs impress with their beautifully presented meals and attention to detail.

Enjoy a bush breakfast overlooking the Luangwa River as you watch hippos and crocodiles or experience a magical Boma dinner under the stars. Meals are paired daily with specially selected South African estate wines, all-inclusive in the rate. All guests staying at Lion Camp for 3+ nights will be offered the option of a bush dinner; this is truly a once-in-a-lifetime experience.

Game Drives

All safari activities are led by the qualified guides who will educate and enlighten you in the secrets of the park. Game drives are conducted in open Land Rovers, meaning guests will have unrestricted panoramas of the surrounding environment and wildlife. Lion Camp also offer game drives by spotlight after the sun goes down, returning to camp by 19:30. Drives by spotlight provide guests with the unique opportunity to see nocturnal animals and their nightly activity.

Walking Safaris

Walking Safaris offer very different experience to encounter the extraordinary wildlife. They bring you in touch with the wilderness and tend to focus more on the minutiae of the park and the eco-system. It is a truly unforgettable experience striding out in country where you are on the same footing as a lion or elephant. All walking safaris are led by expert and qualified walking guides and are accompanied by an armed scout.

Social Focus

Lion Camp is on a continuous mission to maintain the ecological balance of the area, whilst improving the socio-economic status of the region in which they operate. Lion Camp is committed to the spirit of sustainability, conservation and restoration. During the rebuild of Lion Camp, several professional builders collaborated closely with the camp’s team. Once completed, the team had developed new skill sets, as most carpentry, ironmongery, and construction were done on-site.

Local farmer Thomson Zulu, in Mfuwe, grows all the required vegetables, salad produce and herbs. This allows Lion Camp to serve fresh ingredients at their remote location and helps Thomas support his nine children with his thriving business.

Lion Camp are actively involved with the Mkasanga school, located in the community where most of their staff are from. Additionally, they are engaged in several upliftment projects, such as developing a computer facility at the school. The dedicated Lion Camp continue to support Mkasanga and look forward to their future initiatives. Lion Camp is also in partnership with “Pack for a Purpose”, and items for the project are also regularly sent to the school for distribution.

Environmental Focus

Lion Camp’s eco-footprint has been maintained, causing minimal damage to the vegetation in and around the camp. The rebuild of the camp was completed using Rhinowood walkways and decks – a fully sustainable wood product. All removed wood such as Mukwa and Rosewood have been recycled into furniture. The wood-burning “donkeys” were replaced with more efficient gas burners, and an advanced water purifying plant has been installed to purify all borehole water on site.

The camp offers 24 hours of electricity and is entirely self-sufficient in their supply. Power is provided to the suites and lodge by an inverter system, charged by solar panels with a back-up generator. Only bio-degradable laundry materials, cleaning materials and room amenities are now used.
