Los Cauquenes is situated on the Beagle Channel beach, overlooking a gorgeous body of water at the southernmost point in Argentina. Beagle Channel, named after the HMS Beagle – Charles Darwin’s expedition ship – lies close to the border of Chile, and is only 7km from the city of Ushuaia, one of the southernmost settlements in the world. Animal species in this area include rare dolphins – endemic only to this area – sea lions, fur seals, porpoise, penguins, geese, herons, and various species of gulls. With a private beach and a pool on the terrace, guests can enjoy both the staggering snow-topped Andes mountain range and the Antarctic water at the southernmost tip of Argentina, earning the nickname “the end of the world”.

Standard

The standard rooms at Los Cauquenes are comfortable and modern, filled with classic furnishing sand full of bright light. A queen-size bed sits in the centre of the room, covered in crisp white bed linen and adorned with a plush duvet and pillows. The rooms are spacious, perfect for couples and with space for a cot if travellers have a young child. The quadruple standard rooms include a queen-size bed and two single beds, making it the perfect choice for families travelling together. All standard rooms have breathtaking views of the surrounding Andes mountains; fall asleep gazing out over the dark shadowy mountains and wake up to their beauty.

Beagle Channel Rooms

The Beagle Channel Rooms at Los Cauquenes are perfect for couples or small families. The Superior Beagle Channel Rooms include a queen size bed which sits in the centre of the room covered in crisp bed linens and plush pillows, and the Premium Beagle Channel Rooms can be arranged as a double room, a triple room, or a twin room. All rooms are comfortable and cosy, decorated in the same theme as the standard rooms, and filled with natural, bright light which floods the room through wide windows. With stunning views over the glistening azure arctic waters of the Beagle Channel, guests can spend their downtime unwinding in their room gazing over the sweeping view with the snow-capped mountains rising in the distance.

Junior Suite Beagle Channel

Perfect for honeymooning couples, the Junior Suite Beagle Channel is comfortable and cosy, filled with bright light and decorated in a beige and neutral colour palette, making the room feel modern. The suite is open-plan and includes a bedroom area and a lounge area. The queen size bed is adorned with crisp white bed linens and cosy pillows and sits next to a wide window that overlooks the sparkling waters of the channel. Through the lounge area, guests have access to a private balcony where they can enjoy unwinding and gazing over the glistening waters keeping an eye for seals, dolphins and penguins, with snowy mountains rising in the distance.

Superior Suite Beagle Channel

Another suite perfect for honeymooners is the Superior Suite Beagle Channel. Slightly more spacious than the Junior Suite, guests can unwind in comfort on a king size bed covered in crisp bed linen and cosy pillows. Polished wood features make the room feel rustic and luxurious, with an elegant lounge and seating area opposite the bedroom. The suite is bright, filled with natural light through wide windows and glass doors. Access the private decking through the lounge, which overlooks the private beach, and is the perfect place for a refreshing breakfast while staring at the snow-capped mountains and turquoise channel waters. A jacuzzi bath offers guests a space to relax and pamper themselves after a long day of exploring.

Restaurant Reinamora

Penguins and Subantarctic Birdwatching

Set sail on the Akawaia, the resort’s own private ship, and see the magnificent local wildlife such as sheldgoose, sea ducks and a colony of Magellanic penguins. The Beagle Channel and the coastlines of the Argentinian islands are home to some of the most unique and exquisite bird colonies in the world. On the Los Cauquenes birdwatching tour, we will have the opportunity to see the Andean condor, the Magellanic woodpecker, the Fuegian steamer duck, and the great grebe all in their own natural habitat. Guests can sail to the nearby Martillo Island where you can observe a colony of Magellanic penguins.

Take part in a Fuegian Cuisine cooking class with local ingredients and freshly caught seafood such as the King Crab or Patagonian toothfish, or dine aboard the resort’s exclusive vessel the Akawaia. Snow Sports

Hiking - Aquamarine lagoons and dramatic mountain ranges

The resort offers several hikes along some of the most stunning trails that Argentina has to offer. From craggy mountain ranges to aquamarine lagoons, icy glacier crevices to the raw beauty of the peat bog, the best way to experience the natural Patagonian wonders is to follow the hiking trails.

Walk through the lush Andean forest, see views of meandering rivers running through the mountain valleys and experience the ice blue bodies of water such as the magnificent Laguna Esmerelda and the extraordinary Lagunas Gemelas. Reach outstanding lookout points on sprawling lakes and forests. Experience the breathtaking Laguna de Los Témpanos, the aqua blue lagoon located at the base of a glacier, 725 metres above sea level. Take this opportunity to explore the glaciers many hidden caves, and moraines. Experience wave-like ice formations and ethereal crevasses within the glacier – an unmissable sensation.

Los Cauquenes also offers hikes at night. Snowmobiles will take you on a short journey through the enchanted lenga woods, where you will use snowshoes to hike through the darkness, beneath the clear winter sky and the silver stars.

Sustainable Tourism

Surrounded by beautiful natural scenery, Los Cauquenes understands the importance of the environment. This is why the resort is committed to educating future generations on topical issues such as waste collection, the ozone layer and the maintenance of local habitats and ecosystems. Also taking part in recycling initiatives, the resort is involved in the Garrahan hospital recycling programme and by 2019, had recycled 2133 kg of paper, 5445 kg of vegetable oil, 838 light bulbs and 223 kg of batteries.

Guests’ comfort and the service of the staff are a top priority for Los Cauquenes, alongside their commitment to protecting the environment. They help to contribute to the preservation of natural and historical attractions in Ushuaia, working in a responsible way with both their guests and the local community.

‘We are committed to minimising the impacts on the environment by betting on continuous improvement, compliance with environmental regulations and assuming the principles of the World Charter for Sustainable Tourism.’ All of the staff at Los Cauquenes participate in responsible management to make sure present and future guests have the best experience they can while at ‘the end of the world.’

Environmental Preservation

Los Cauquenes provide their guests with aluminium bottles, which can be refilled and reused, for excursions to reduce the use of single-use plastics. Drinking water dispensers have been placed in different areas of the hotel where guests can then fill up their bottles. The resort uses recycled paper and participate in the Garrahan Hospital recycling program. Additionally, the Los Cauquenes raise awareness amongst their guests and staff about environmental preservation, and the use of water and electricity. The resort has implemented the use of LED bulbs to reduce their energy consumption and optimise the air-conditioning at the resort by installing double glazed windows to keep additional heat out. Magnetic cards are used so that electricity is not left running when guests are not using their rooms, and motion sensors are used in certain areas to prevent lights from being left on unnecessarily.

Los Cauquenes also hold cultural activities and responsible talks covering waste collection on the coast, how to protect the ozone layer, and about local flora and fauna.
