Luangwa River Camp sits nestled under an ancient ebony grove on the banks of the Luangwa River. The camp overlooks the game rich area known as the Luangwa Wafwa. Luangwa River Camp, Zambia

Airport shuttle is complimentary to guests staying at Luangwa River Camp. The South African Airways, Kenya Airways and Emirates fly into Lusaka, Zambia. Additionally, South African Airways, Kenya Airways and Ethiopian Airways fly into Lilongwe, Malawi. To Mfuwe it is a 1 hour 30 minutes flight with Proflight from Lusaka, Zambia or a 1-hour flight from Lilongwe, Malawi.

Getting to the camp from Mfuwe Airport is a 1-hour road transfer through colourful village life and game viewing areas. Throughout the year the camp has direct access from the camp to the park by boat or vehicle. The dry months are from April until October and the wet months November until March. Temperatures range throughout the year from between 11 – 40 ° C.

Bush suite

The subtly decorated bush suites are made up of brick walls and elegantly thatched roofs. Each suite provides guests with an en-suite bathroom, including double vanities, and sunken bathtubs looking out onto your own private corner of Africa. Both the bedroom and bathroom feature large sliding doors leading onto a decked area, allowing a lovely breeze into the room and mesmerising views onto the river. There are five bush suites in total, comprising of one double and four twins. The camp sleeps a maximum ten guests. There is no WIFI but there is telephone reception.

Dining at Luangwa River Camp

Luangwa River Camp is fully inclusive of all meals and drinks and plays host to an exquisite dining room and bar. Guests will feel spoilt the entire time as they feast on fresh and delicious cuisine, matched with exceptional service and staff. The morning buffets are a magical affair, as breakfast brings spreads of cereals, pastries, fruit and eggs to order, all beautifully presented and set up by the banks of the river in a prime position to watch the sun rise.

Nut Allergies: While the kitchen is fully capable of catering for most dietary requests, the camp regrettably are unable to cater for people with severe nut allergies as they cannot guarantee a completely nut free environment.

Game drives

Exploring the Luangwa by game drives is the best way to discover the unspoilt wilderness of the River Camp. In the comfort of a Toyota Landcruiser, guests will have the option of both day and evening drives – with a window seat available for everyone. All the vehicles have an open top affording 360-degree panoramas. These game drives allow guests to witness the magnificent Big 5, including multiple lion and leopard sightings plus a bounty of information about the land, flora and wildlife.

Walking Safaris

Walking in the Luangwa allows guests the opportunity to feel at one with nature and have a closer encounter of the action. The walks are led by the extremely knowledgeable guides and escorted by an armed National Park scout. Witness the details and trails that the animals leave behind. A vehicle with canopy can also be requested.

Boating Safaris

Boating safaris on the Luangwa in Zambia’s Emerald Season provides a special treat for guests. Explore the lagoons and experience enhanced game viewing and birding. Emerald Season is the time of the year when the heavens open and Zambia is blessed with life-giving rainfall from November to April. The rains transform the valley into a lush, emerald green paradise from which the rainy season takes its name.

Wildlife Conservation

“Robin Pope Safaris undertakes many activities and supports a diversity of projects that contribute to the conservation and protection of wildlife. We also ensure that wildlife and their habitats are not disturbed by our operations. Activities undertaken include:

  • Professionally Trained & Highly Qualified Safari Guides – Our guides are trained to the highest possible standards, and all have professional safari guiding qualifications
  • Anti-Poaching – In Zambia we financially support the vital anti-poaching activities of Conservation South Luangwa (CSL) in order to keep South Luangwa’s wildlife safe from poachers
  • We also support both financially and practically our local Kakumbi Community Resource Board
  • In Zimbabwe we support the Zambezi Elephant Fund. This fund works with local authorities, as well as a collaborative group of alliance partners to maintain a strong anti-poaching presence”
