Etosha is also home to 110 reptile species, 16 amphibian species and over 300 bird species – including the hundreds of thousands of elegant pink flamingoes that flock to the Etosha Pan – the largest salt pan in Africa. Mushara Philosophy

The Mushara Collection has a ‘people first’ policy and has worked to train local people as part of the Mushara team. The staff at Mushara are employed from local communities, and receive training opportunities and the chance to improve their skills. For example, each month a fully qualified chef, Rhona Strauss, visits the kitchens and helps the chefs design new dishes and menus that keep up with current food trends.

Mushara Collection’s guides are also given the chance to participate in courses and receive additional education which benefits both them and guests who can learn more about the national park on game drives from their expertly trained guides.

Farm to Table

The Mushara Collection has a farm at their Mushara Lodge accommodation. Each morning, eggs are gathered to be washed and cooked before breakfast. Meals are made using local ingredients and farm-fresh produce. The chickens and ducks bred on-site are also utilised to create mouthwatering dishes. This reduces the need to import products, keeping carbon emissions low and allowing the properties to be more self-sufficient.

Plastic Straw Ban

The Mushara Collection are no longer using plastic straws at any of their accommodations, helping to lessen the impact that single-use plastics are having on the environment. Plastic bags are banned in Etosha National Park, and anyone who takes a plastic bag into the park will be fined NAM$500 as a result. Mushara also encourages its guests to reduce their use of single-use plastics.

Children of all ages are welcome at Mushara Bush Camp, and children aged 3 years and under stay for free.
