Naibor Camp is nestled in a small, peaceful stretch of woodland on the banks of the Talek River, where you can forget all about the hubbub of modern urban life. Here, there’s just you and the untainted wilderness. Naibor is made up of three interlaced tented camps, (Main) Naibor Camp, Little Naibor and Naibor Wilderness. Each has their own styles and perks that can accommodate a variety of budgets, while still maintaining the Naibor trademark combo of luxury and tasteful elegance. Both Little Naibor and Naibor Wilderness can be booked on an exclusive basis to allow for a more intimate and personal safari experience.

Naibor sits on the banks of the Talek River in the Maasai Mara National Reserve, near to where it converges with the Mara River. The surrounding woodland provides the camp with ample shelter and shade. Unlike many other properties, Naibor is on the south side of the river, on which there are only 2 crossing points. This extra peace and quiet can be the making of a perfect safari experience for some when staying in a reserve as popular as the Maasai Mara. To reach the camp, guests can fly from Nairobi to the Olkiombo airstrip and from there it’s a 30 minute drive Naibor.

Main Naibor is made up of 7 deluxe canvas tents, 5 doubles and 2 twins, all tucked away in their own bit of secluded woodland. Each has their own open-sided veranda, where guests can relax on daybeds overlooking the river and Mara plains, and en suite bathroom with a flushing loo, two wash basins and a classic safari bucket shower.
Little Naibor is comprised of 2 spacious tent suites in the immediate vicinity of Main Naibor, perfect for families or travelling groups. Luxury and privacy are taken to a new level here with a private dining area overlooking the river, your very own safari vehicle and an exclusive team of staff on hand to take care of anything you need. Both Little Naibor tents have 2 bedrooms with their own en suites and a shared lounge area and veranda, decorated in a more exotic style than Main Naibor with little features such as Persian rugs and ornate mirrors.
Naibor Wilderness offers a great mix of rustic simplicity and total privacy, hidden away amidst a dense woodland grove. With just 3 guest tents and a separate dining/lounge tent available to use, Wilderness is ideal for exclusive group bookings. Each tent comes with either a twin or double bed, a private veranda, and an en suite fitted with a flushing loo, wash basins and a classic safari shower.
All meals are prepared for guests by an excellent team of chefs and served for them in the bright and open dining tents, with options to dine under the canvas or at the tables just outside. Breakfasts offer a variety of hot and continental dishes, and can also be packed into picnics for game drives. Lunches are usually served from a buffet and enjoyed at tables overlooking the river, including dishes such as pastas, quiches, salads and homemade pizzas. Guests can enjoy drinks and nibbles in the lounge tent before a delicious dinner by candlelight at the shared table.
Game drives make up the heart of the safari adventure at Naibor. Venturing out into the savannah is the perfect way to experience the Kenyan wilds with high chances to see all the Big Five – lion, leopard, elephant, rhino and buffalo – as well as cheetah, hyena, serval, jackal, giraffe and antelope. They recommend you depart either in the early morning or the late afternoon as it’s a little cooler and the animals are more active, but you can also go out for all-day game drives. All their vehicles are open-sided, which is great for photography and fuller views, and are fitted with mini-fridges so all your drinks can stay nice and cool.
As the sun rises take to the skies for one of the most iconic and romantic safari experiences. Glide silently over the Mara plains and take in the beautiful scenery and undisturbed wildlife below. After landing, guests will be treated to a champagne bush breakfast to finish your day with a flourish!
For those looking to get that little bit further into the wilderness, Naibor will set up lovely dining tables out in the bush for guests to enjoy a lovely meal, or drinks and nibbles as the sun sets.
Leave the vehicles behind and take to the savannah with one of the camp’s expert guides and naturalists. The early morning is a great time to set off so you can watch the bush come alive all around you. Walking the same ground as the animals of the Maasai Mara takes safari to a far more intimate level. While learning all about the plants and their medicinal uses and Maasai folklore, guests can walk in the footsteps of giraffes, elephants, buffalo, hyenas or even lions!
Naibor is more than happy to arrange for its guests to visit the nearby Maasai village. This is an invaluable chance to meet the vibrant Maasai people, see their homes and daily lives, and learn about a rich culture that has endured for hundreds of years.
Naibor’s private spa tent is tucked away in a secluded corner of the camp just waiting for you when you need to press pause and unwind. There are a range of treatments available including massages, manicures, pedicures and waxing. Guests can also enjoy a complimentary head and neck massage on the evening they arrive to help them relax after their journey and give a little taste of the Naibor’s spa specialist has to offer.
Naibor Camp works alongside local Maasai communities to help preserve natural wildlife areas and support their livelihoods. Naibor Camp donates fuel to the Black Rhino Protection Unit for their vehicles and so far have given more than 15,000 litres. Naibor also actively employs locally in order to help provide Maasai people with stable incomes and further links between the local community and tourism. The camp has made for a great outlet for selling local Maasai arts and crafts, allowing for locals to expand their market. The community also receives financial contributions for every guest that stays at Naibor Camp, which they can put towards social development projects.
Naibor Camp regularly donates and supports the MMCP, with a recent donation going towards a refurbished scout vehicle. Since the beginning of the 20th century the cheetah population has fallen dramatically because of human activity, meaning it’s vital to understand the impact of human interference on cheetah populations in order to mitigate the damages done and protect the remaining cheetahs. The project researchers often give talks on cheetah biology and conservation at the camps in the Mara for the benefit of both guides and guests, who are encouraged to participate in the Project – photographs of cheetahs from game drives are especially helpful for the team.
Because Naibor Camp is unfenced they have requested that guests don’t bring children under the age of 8
