Nantwich Lodge

All the suites at Nantwich Lodge are comfortable and luxurious. The interiors are decorated with a modern, minimalist theme with light walls and furnishings which help to keep the room spacious and airy. Floor to ceiling sliding doors flood the room with natural light, and a fresh Zimbabwean breeze when they are open. A large bed sits in the centre of the room and is backed by a feature wooden headboard, swathed with mosquito netting.

The suites can come in a double or twin formation and each sleep two people. If families wish to stay together then 4 of the suites have inter-leading doors which can connect the rooms. Each suite has an ensuite bathroom which is decorated in a stone industrial and modern theme, with two basins and a large walk in shower which has a feature mutin style shower screen. For couples looking for a romantic stay, there is a private and luxurious honeymoon suite which is perfect for an exclusive sojourn.

The main dining area at Nantwich Lodge offers both indoor and outdoor dining experiences. There is an open kitchen, where guests can see their meal being prepared by skilled chefs, with fresh and locally sourced ingredients, flavoured with herbs from Nantwich’s own herb garden. Poolside dining can be arranged for a more private dining experience and guests can enjoy a refreshing drink from the bar, either before or after dinner, around the crackling Boma fire pit.

Enjoy a traditional safari experience of a game drive through the Northern region of Hwange National Park. With a friendly and knowledgeable guide make your way around the park in an open 4×4 safari vehicle and keep your eyes peeled for herds of elephant, wandering lions, buffalos, zebras, and many other species of animal. With disruption kept to a minimum, this is a perfect way to see animals up close and personal in their natural habitat. Guests can choose to go on a morning, afternoon, evening or full day game drive. Each time offers unique viewings of this diverse park.

For a unique and unforgettable experience explore the Hwange National Park on foot. There is no better way to feel closer to nature than by exploring it on your own two feet. With a trained and knowledgeable guide, wander along flat paths and grasslands listening to your guide share their wisdom on the surrounding area and marvel at the micro-ecosystems you can see, such as animal prints. Also available is a short walk to a bush breakfast, where you can reward your efforts with a delicious meal and fresh local fruit in the heart of nature.

Filled with books about the wildlife and birdlife of the area, relax and enjoy a casual flick through these books. The library is also where interactive and interesting talks about the conservation of Hwange take place. Listen and engage with the speakers to find out what you can do to help conserve and protect the stunning surroundings and animals.

A large sparkling plunge pool is in the main area of Nantwich Lodge. Escape here in the heat of the afternoon for a cooling and refreshing dip in the clear waters. An infinity edge allows guests to gaze over the rolling grasslands, keeping an eye out for any wandering herds of elephants or thirsty animals looking for a watering hole.

Created by Hideaways, the Grow Africa Foundation, was established with the aim “of making a positive impact on the environment, community and economy” in the areas in which they operate. They are aware it is not just their efforts that make an impact, and they strive to engage guests to help with the conservation of wildlife and local communities. One such initiative that Grow Africa has implemented is sponsorships for students’ school fees who attend Dingani Primary School, as well as helping to maintain the school. A sponsorship program for an early childhood development teacher is also being implemented, as so far there is “only 1 teacher for 108 students.”

Grow Africa have their own specific project called “Project Penya” which was founded to fight “the taboo of menstruation in rural Africa.” Due to old-fashioned stigmas and limited access to sanitation, girls in rural Africa often end up missing up to 25% of their school year. The solution to this not only allows the girls to go to school but also empowers the community. Washable pads were introduced, and the community have been trained to produce the pads themselves. Grow Africa also works in partnership with Pack for a Purpose which allows guests to find out if the community and local school need any supplies before they come, and to bring them in their suitcase.

Hideaways Africa are “passionate about preserving Africa’s precious wildlife species” and not just preserving them but also preventing the human-wildlife conflict which currently happens. Hideaways is a founding member of the “Conservation and Wildlife Fund” which is a non-profit trust founded by a group of “conservationists and stakeholders in the Hwange National Park region”, and has its own anti-poaching unit which helps to offer protection to the animals from illegal poachers. Hideaways Africa understands that a positive impact needs to be made to local communities as well as the environment and wildlife. They work in partnership with their foundation Grow Africa to educate and engage guests on the importance of conservation and community when they stay in a Hideaway property.

Hideaway Africa’s very own eco-philosophy is “touching the earth lightly”, they strive to maintain a minimal carbon footprint and to “practice sustainability ” wherever and whenever they can. At Nantwich Lodge a mixture of grid power and solar power is used to create energy for their appliances, and energy-efficient LED light bulbs are used throughout the lodge.
