Game Drives

Journey to the heart of the Tarangire for unmatched experiences in connecting with nature and the opportunity to observe the magnificent wildlife up close. Witness the wonders of the Tanzanian wilds from an open-sided, photography-optimised safari car. While staying at Nimali, you’ll have excellent chances to see an amazing array of animals. Their game drives make the most of the cool early mornings and evenings when the wilderness first stirs and is no longer slowed by the day’s heat.

Watch the herds of zebra, giraffes and antelope and the prides of lions, spot cheetahs and packs of wild dogs, and if you’re lucky catch some glimpses of elephants and shy elands. For a fully rounded safari experience, night-time drives are also available so you can see how the bush is still bustling with life even after the sun goes down.

Walking Safari

Leave the cars behind and stretch your legs with an expert guide. Walking the same ground as the animals of the Tarangire takes your safari to a far more intimate level. There are some things that you simply can’t appreciate while on a game drive, so once you slow down your eyes will be opened to all these new things you hadn’t noticed before. Only by getting up close are you able to fully appreciate the role of every little piece of the ecosystem.

Hot Air Balloon Safari

Start your day on a high as dawn breaks across the plains. Glide silently over the Tarangire and take in the beautiful scenery and undisturbed wildlife below. Expect to be starstruck by the serene silence and stillness, the perfect setting to take in the wildlife from above without any interference.

Fly Camping

If you’re looking to take your safari adventure to the next level you can trek out into the wilderness and stay at a small, lightweight camp in an exclusive area away from the main camp.

Day Trips

Some activities need a whole day dedicated to them to make the most of the experience. Nimali can arrange day-long trips to the Tarangire National Park for stunning game viewing, Lake Manyara and the Ngorongoro Crater, a haven for endangered black rhinos, giant-tusked elephants and black-maned lions.

Community and Culture

The areas surrounding the camp are home to communities with wonderful cultures and rich heritages waiting to be explored. You’ll have the chance to visit local schools and villages supported by Nimali, get to know the people living there and learn about their day-to-day lives. You’ll also be able to visit a traditional Maasai boma, meet the locals and have the change to delve deep into an amazing cultural experience.

Conservation

One of the largest threats to wildlife today is human encroachment. With the human population growing and agricultural expansions not being regulated, there is a serious strain both on the wildlife and their natural environments. As part of Nimali’s mission, they employ local people as part of their anti-poaching team to protect the wildlife from danger. They also help to negate the human-wildlife conflict, particularly for villages close to wildlife areas. The Nimali team helps to educate the community to understand the how tourism has direct benefits whilst protecting the wildlife and areas where they operate.

Community

Nimali strives to take a hands-on but sensitive approach to their initiatives, which have been hugely successful and continue to help local communities. These people who live around the wildlife areas are vital part in ensuring they are protected. With education and local employment, Nimali are able to show the importance of conservation while also helping the community to benefit economically and gain independence.

Green Vision

Nimali’s camps are small and specially designed to be as eco-friendly as they can, so their impact on the land is lessened. They operate fully on solar power for energy, including solar water pumps, heaters and solar fridges. They also employ a no plastic policy and are introducing refillable water bottles for game drives to decrease the consumption of single-use plastic bottles. Particular attention is given to the green recycling of materials – with a recycling programme in place in Arusha, Nimali ensures all items are taken to the recycling centre to be properly disposed of.
