Botswana is home to more wildlife species than anywhere else on the continent. Witnessing the majestic animals of the Okavango Delta – the beautiful birdlife, languishing hippos and regal lions – out in their natural habitat is an opportunity like no other, and one that you wouldn’t want to have to tear your eyes from. So why should you? On this mobile safari expedition, there are no lodges. Instead, you will have the unique chance to live on a safari expedition. Spend your days making the most out of your time here, without the need to stop. Boat up to herds made up of hundreds of elephants, travel across floodplains in a custom 4×4 and search for all manner of game, and spend your nights sleeping under the stars, surrounded by nature in the heart of Botswana.
Okavango Delta, Botswana
You will meet your guide at Xaraxai Airstrip, before driving to the campsite. The next few days will be spent exploring both on land and in the water, and discovering the amazing creatures that call the Okavango Delta their home. You will be able to observe wildebeest, impalas, zebras, wild dogs and cheetahs, all while learning about their daily routines and how they live in the reserve.
- Stay on the move

- Vast range of wildlife
- Chance to spend a night fly-camping on a remote, lantern-lit island
- Meals and local drinks included
- Helicopter and Hot Air Balloon flights available
No time will be lost returning to camp at the end of each day on this safari. Instead, where you go, the camp goes. Make sure you don’t miss a thing by experiencing the stunning natural environment of Botswana every second. The mobile tents are large Meru-style canvas tents with real beds, down pillows and pure cotton sheets which guarantee that your nights will be comfortable. Bathrooms are private, with bucket showers, plenty of hot water, and bush loos. When fly camping on the private, lantern-lit island, you’ll sleep under the stars on a bedroll with the protection of a mosquito net. There are no electrical facilities available at either camp, but camera batteries can be charged using a 12-volt car battery.
Food will be served in the mess tent, a stylishly designed camping environment with Persian rugs, bone-handled cutlery and comfortable furniture. Delectable three-course meals will be available, as well as sweet treats and tea time.
Enjoy a relaxing mekoro journey through the shallow channels of the Delta, and observe animals as they stop to drink from the river banks. Watch elephant families swimming and bathing, spot crocodiles basking in the sun and hippo jousting for territories.
Tick off a vast number of species unique to the Okavango Delta such as the Slaty Egret, the Pel’s Fishing Owl and the African Skimmer. Visit some of the largest heronries in the Southern Hemisphere where no less than 19 species make their nests and live in noisy harmony.
Fly to the Tsodilo Hills, located in North-West Botswana, and visit the four ancient rock hills. Discover art sites that hold over 4000 paintings, going back thousands of years. Flights will be in the morning, as the trip takes approximately 5 and a half hours in total from the Delta.
Get a bird’s-eye view of the Okavango Delta by taking a helicopter trip over the waterways. Watch herds of elephants splashing through the Delta from above, without having to get soaked yourself – and make sure to take a camera.
Or, if you fancy feeling the wind in your hair, take a hot air balloon journey over the Delta. You will be able to experience an outstanding panoramic view from anywhere between tree-top heights, to a thousand feet.
The Okavango Delta Mobile Expedition is a Natural Selection expedition. Natural Selection supports the vision of the Botswana Community and Conservation Initiative (BCCI), which provides regional conservation and support for rural communities to develop sustainable land-use practices that promote conservation-based economic opportunities, facilitate landscape-scale wildlife movements, and provide for climate change resilience. Natural Selection has also partnered with Coaching Conservation ‘to provide local people with the critical information they need to stay safe and healthy during the pandemic.’
‘Over the last three years, 1.5% of every guest’s stay in [Natural Selection’s] camps has gone towards community and conservation projects. Combined with the direct contributions that [Natural Selection’s] camps make to local community outreach, this amounts to nearly 1 million USD of committed funds.’
Natural Selection ensures that 1.5% of your expedition fees goes to wildlife conservation. They also work with the local communities, governments and conservation organisations in order to help protect conservation areas, and sustain them. The camps that are built are subtle and blend in with the environment and the habitats that already exist there, causing minimal disruption to the surrounding wildlife.
