Rios Tropicales Lodge

The Rios Tropicales Lodge is located on a private reserve in the jungles of Costa Rica’s Limón Province. The lodge is surrounded by tropical rainforest and overlooks the Rio Pacuare River. Accommodation is available in deluxe king rooms, single rooms, and a dorm room with bunk beds. The lodge features a dining area where a variety of meals are served daily. Various activities are available at the resort including horseback riding, hiking, tree planting, and zip lining.

Rios Tropicales Lodge

Rios Tropicales Lodge is located within 2,470 acres of protected rainforest. The Rios Tropicales Private Rainforest Reserve encompasses land from the banks of the Pacuare River, where the Rios Tropicales Eco-lodge sits, up to the top of the Pacuare Gorge and extending high above the river. This then continues towards the community of El Tigre and  up to the vital Barbilla-Destierro Biological Corridor, one of Costa Rica’s most important wildlife conservation areas in the Talamanca Mountains. The corridor includes the Barbilla National Park and Nairi Awari Cabecar Indigenous Reserve to form a protected area of over 25,000 acres.

Rafting Trip

From Rios Tropicales Lodge, you can enjoy a day of rafting on the white river rapids of Pacuare River. Enjoy an a unique view of the tropical forest as you embark on this incredible adventure. Throughout the trip, you will experience warm, cascading waterfalls, an abundance of lush rainforest and fascinating wildlife. Pacuare River

The Pacuare River, from where Rios Tropicales operates, is considered as one of the best rivers in the world. Whether this be for rafting adventures or its exuberant vegetation and spectacular whitewater rapids. With an approximate length of 133 km, the river has 32 km of rapids Class III and IV that are ideal for recreation and adventure tourism. Discover the rich history of the Cabecar indigenous communities that have made this beautiful place their home for hundreds of years. This wonderful ecosystem is not to be missed on your trip to Costa Rica!

Rios Tropicales Mission

At Rios Tropicales Lodge, their mission to share the rivers, natural resources and culture of Costa Rica while sharing conservation values with their visitors. It has a composting system that collects all kitchen waste decomposing with the help of beneficial microorganisms, which is used as an organic fertiliser; this eliminates the need for chemical fertilisers.

From their very beginning, Rios Tropicales have taken active steps to “create and maintain conditions under which humans and nature can exist in productive harmony.” Meaning that the sustainability is the main ethos of the lodge. The lodge works to help protect and restore the fragile ecosystem that surrounds the lodge by safeguarding their private reserve, reforesting and preventing illegal hunting. Furthermore, the lodge advocates for the protection of rivers and wildlife. They established the Fundación Rios Tropicales, which is a not-for-profit organisation that preserve, protect and restore Costa Rican rivers and streams. With this foundation, they have been able to gather donations from guests and staff and have purchased rainforest land for protection and helped to stop the development of two separate dams threatening the Pacuare River.

Electricity Management

The majority of the electricity used at Rios Tropicales Lodge is produced using a hydroelectric generator. This generator powers the lights, kitchen, hot water heater and other electrical sources.

 

Only children aged 8 years and older can enjoy a stay at the Rios Tropicales Lodge.
