Sabi Sand Game Reserve, Kruger, 1200, South Africa
Sabi Sands Private Game Reserve shares an unfenced border with the Kruger National Park and makes up part of the 20,000 kilometre² Greater Kruger National Park. The wildlife inside Kruger has been protected since its founding in 1926, when it became Africa’s first national park. With unfenced borders between Kruger and the surrounding reserves, the animals roam freely between all, and this creates one of the most biodiverse wildlife populations in Africa.
Stretches of rolling grassland, thick areas of indigenous woodland, sparkling watering holes, and endless horizons are home to the big five; elephants, buffalos, rhinos, lions and leopards as well as giraffes, hyenas, zebras, cheetahs and hippos. With over 500 species of bird, this game reserve is also a birder’s paradise, with the red-billed pecker, black-bellied bustard and comb duck all filling the sky with their songs.
Guests can access Silvan Safari Lodge by driving from Johannesburg, with directions which can be provided by Silvan Safari Lodge.

Silvan Safari is partnered with the Good Work Foundation who work to develop and lead a ‘focused, achievable, and digitally-(em)powered education model’ for students who live in rural areas. Forward-thinking and modern, the digital campuses which GWF have set up all neighbour conservation areas in South Africa and so far, since the beginning in 2003, over 4000 students have registered for this program. Access to education in rural Africa has often been a struggle, and GWF and Silvan’s work has been to offer access to high-quality education to young people to help create the future generations of ‘conservationists, innovators, and leaders.’
Silvan partnered with Wildlife ACT, which is a non-profit organisation, to help with their part of conserving the beautiful wildlife which inhabits Africa. The programmes and initiatives which they are a part of are all sustainable and long-term, making sure that rehabilitation of these endangered animals is an ongoing effort, not a one time job.
