Singita Kataza House

Singita Kataza House is set within a landscape of wetlands and lush meadows with magnificent views of the Sabyinyo, Gahinga and Muhabura volcanoes. Designed around local materials, the use of volcanic rock, river stone, handmade ceramic tiles and oven-red clay bricks made by surrounding communities connect the villa to the landscape and its culture. These influences are interpreted in a contemporary style and entirely unique architectural layout. Singita Kataza House showcases four opulent bedrooms, sleeping a total of eight guests.

The House boasts a Master Suite, a Junior Master Suite and a further 2 Suites. All the suites offer uninterrupted views of the mountainous, forested national park. Thoughtful in-room conveniences include a well-stocked pantry and minibar and a private dining space.

The bedrooms are configured as a super king double or twin, featuring a rest area, dressing room with double vanity, and a spacious bathroom with a bath, separate toilet, indoor shower, and glass-enclosed outdoor shower. A private terrace with a fireplace and heated plunge pool encourages closer engagement with the surrounding landscape and utter leisure.

Gorilla Trekking

Singita Kataza House provides a contemplative, comfortable and nurturing space in which to appreciate the transformative experience of coming face to face with the forest’s gentle giants. For most guests, a gorilla trek is at the top of their list when they visit Rwanda. A stay at Singita Kataza House allows them the privilege to encounter one of Africa’s most majestic and gentle creatures in the wild, while immersed in the beauty of their pristine natural habitat. The distance of each gorilla trek is varied, the duration is anywhere from a couple of hours to a full day.

The daily hikes to observe gorilla groups in their natural habitat in the Volcanoes National Park are led by expert guides. On the day of the trek, guests will be woken early to enjoy breakfast and gear up, after which they’ll be taken to the guide station a few kilometres from the lodge. Here, guests will have a briefing by the guides, and when ready will set off on the scenic trek through thick forest terrain towards a specific gorilla group, guided by trained rangers. Once the gorilla group is located guests can spend up to an hour with them, observing these gentle creatures in their natural environment. Meals and additional activities are flexible around each trek.

Singita Volcanoes National Park’s goal is to preserve and protect large areas of African wilderness for future generations. They aim to do this through the development of dedicated programmes that support both biodiversity conservation as well as community partnerships, making a meaningful difference in the lives of people living in the area.

Singita’s sustainability partner – Bioregional – champions better and more sustainable ways to live, work and carry out business. Bioregional’s One Planet Living sustainability framework encompasses ten guiding principles, its detailed goals were developed together with WWF. Backed by science and many years of hands-on experience, this highly flexible framework helps organisations around the world achieve their vision of a brighter, better future.

“Singita Serengeti adopted the framework in 2012 and since 2016, all our properties have been committed to its principles. It serves as a basis for reducing greenhouse gas emissions, saving water, improving waste management and recycling, having a positive impact on local economies and conserving precious natural resources. These sustainability principles are critical to the fulfilment of Singita’s 100-year purpose and drive us towards our goal of being a completely carbon-neutral operation.”
