Also, the local staff are encouraged to read and are mentored by a senior member of the team to build leadership skills. This contributes to the local community, and allows for further development as the generations go on. Environmental Sustainability

In order to ensure that the local environment surrounding the Sukau Rainforest Lodge continues to thrive, the lodge has implemented a scheme to educate tourists and local people about the rainforest. Through this education, the lodge teaches people about how to properly respect the local environment and the biodiversity that lives within it. With naturalist guides leading a sustainability tour, guests can explore how the ‘Conservation Fellows’ have contributed to saving the eco-systems of Borneo.

Energy Management

The Sukau Rainforest Lodge is dedicated to being as eco-friendly as possible. All rooms have energy saving lightbulbs installed in order to reduce the amount of unnecessary electricity the lodges uses. In order to reduce the amount of electricity, the gardens and corridors are lit using oil lamps, powered by leftover kitchen oil, providing a unique ambience to the lodge. Also, the water is heated with a solar heating system, making use of natural energy production.

Water Management

The Sukau Rainforest Lodge is 100% self-reliant on water. Utilising rainwater harvesting techniques, all the water is cleaned and repurposed for kitchen, shower and washing. The pools at the lodge are also filled with rainwater. Furthermore, the Sukau Rainforest Lodge only replaces bed linen and towels on request, reducing the amount of times that these items are washed and therefore reducing the amount of water used at the lodge.
