Why Kenya?

Discover the wonder of the Maasai Mara, boasting the largest wildlife reserve on the continent! A breathtakingly beautiful expanse of sweeping plains and uncontained nature, the Maasai Mara National Reserve is home to a wealth of stunning animals such as lions, cheetahs, elephants, rhinos, buffalos, wildebeest, giraffes, zebras and a vast array of birdlife. The plethora of wildlife offers the perfect backdrop to some of the largest cities and towns in East Africa – the bustling Nairobi and Mombasa are among some of the country’s finest gems.

Every year, 1.5 million wildebeest, as well as approximately 200,000 zebra and other herbivores including elands, gazelles and impala, make the treacherous journey from Tanzania’s Serengeti to the Maasai Mara in Kenya. This annual pilgrimage spans 1000km and hundreds of thousands of herbivores will be lost along the way, as opportunistic predators strike the weary prey, and exhausted animals fail to cross the Mara River successful. The Great Migration crosses Kenya’s Mara River around July/August, avoiding the snapping jaws of lurking Nile Crocodiles in the last stretch of their journey to the verdant plains of the Maasai Mara. This incredible and heart-racing spectacle is not to be missed!

Embark on a trek up Mount Kenya, the second-highest peak in Africa. Travellers can wander up one of a number of mountain trails that lead both up and around the long-dormant volcano.

Kenya’s Great Rift Valley is home to a series of dramatic geological formations formed by the drifting tectonic plates over millions of years, shown by the great cracks running through the earth’s surface, and craggy amphitheatres, with sparkling lakes dotted across the twisted and sculpted landscape. The lakes include the saline Lake Magadi, famous for its shocking pink colour and resident flamingoes, and Lake Laikipia which rests within a private reserve where travellers can enjoy uninterrupted wildlife viewing including creatures like the endangered African Hunting Dog, Grevy’s Zebra and Laikipia Hartebeest.

Nairobi is the largest city and capital of Kenya, featuring an array of museums, art galleries and markets. Nairobi National Park is famous for being the world’s only game reserve found within a major city. This park is home to the world’s densest population of rhinos. In addition, the park has a diverse and varied bird population with 400 species recorded.

Situated in northern Kenya, in an area of 870km², Meru National Park is an untamed wilderness featuring lush jungle, coursing rivers, verdant swamp and khaki grasslands. The western border is fringed by the Nyambeni Hills, topped with pockets of protected forests, which are the source of 13 permanent rivers that feed into the park. This remote and unspoilt paradise provides a chance to see Grevy’s zebra, elephant, Bohor reedbuck, hartebeest, snakes, buffalo and more than 427 species of birds. We could go on here talking about the numerous national parks but words pale in comparison to the experience of seeing them for yourself.
