Your honeymoon will begin in Lima, the capital of Peru. The city has much to offer and has a number of wonderful culinary and cultural options. Your first full day will be spent in luxury on a yacht. A wonderful sunset sail will be the perfect welcome to Peru. This is then followed up with a romantic dinner which will allow you to explore the flavours of the region.
Lima – the capital of Peru – is situated on a plateau overlooking the Pacific Coast. It is a sprawling metropolitan city, home to over 10 million Peruvians and is a naturally perfect location for sampling the famed national cuisine with its vast base of ingredients and spices. Furthermore, the city offers relaxing tours to churches, convents, historical plazas and centres, and beautiful gardens, bars and nightspots. Meanwhile, an ancient tradition is very much visible at Huaca Pucllana temple, just steps away from the central Miraflores district, and the impressive Pyramids of Pachacamac are just a 40km drive south.
Cusco
Next, it is a trip to Cusco to enjoy the beauty of the ancient town. Explore the natural wonders of Maras, Moray, and Ollantaytambo, which are ancient sites steeped in history. One of the highlights of this experience is the wonderful Hiram Bingham Train. Reminiscent of 1920s luxury, it is a journey unlike any other. With excellent onboard facilities and stunning picturesque views, this is the best way to travel to Machu Picchu.
Cusco was originally the historic capital of the Inca Empire and is now a UNESCO World Heritage Site. With an elevation of over 11,000 feet, visitors can acclimatise before setting off on long treks towards Machu Picchu’s legendary routes, some even used historically by the Incas. Cusco is pleasant to explore, with ancient stonework, narrow streets and Inca temple remains side by side with Spanish colonial buildings. Numerous museums showcase Inca and pre-Columbian culture, as well as textiles and sacred plants. Being a rich agricultural region, many fusion and neo-Andean restaurants offer unique Peruvian gastronomy. Meanwhile, day trips to nearby lagoons can be connected with visits to Inca ruins such as Pisac, Tambomachay, Kenqo, Sacsayhuaman and Ollantaytambo.
When you arrive in Machu Picchu you will have a private tour. You can ask questions and hear about the origins and meaning of this stunning archaeological site. A trek to Wayna Picchu also provides the perfect opportunity to observe the beauty of the area from above.
Sacred Valley
The Sacred Valley of the Incas is the eternal home of abundance for indigenous Peruvians and locals, who continue to call this Valley home. The Sacred Valley is home to Machu Picchu, built in the 15th century for the Inca emperor, Pachacuti. From Cusco, the former Inca capital, visitors can decide on trekking an ‘Inca trail’ for multiple days, or taking the train to visit the stunning Machu Picchu. All routes wind around dramatic peaks, rivers and archaeological sites, with regular rest stops at scenic points, and camping for up to three nights (depending on trail length). The region was known by many civilisations for its agricultural potential, and towns such as Ollantaytambo were once country retreats for Inca royalty.
Your last days will be spent in the ancient city of Cusco. Take part in a tour of the city and its surrounding areas on your penultimate day as your guide will lead you through the city’s historical importance and cultural sites. For your last night, make the most of a beautiful dinner at Map Cafe. Your last day is left free to help organise your return journey home.
You will arrive at Jorge Chavez International Airport (LIM). You will be met by a representative ready to take you to your hotel where you will spend your first night.
The following day is a free day for you to choose what to do. You will enjoy an excursion sailing the coast of Lima. Embark on a voyage along Lima’s coastline, setting out from Peru’s only luxury marina. Enjoy a wonderful sunset sail along the bay, or a full-day excursion to the Palomino Islands where you can watch and swim with sea lions.
You will then be transported to Central Restaurant to enjoy a lovely dinner. Central Restaurant offers a unique experience with a 14-course tasting menu called ‘Explore 14 Mater world ecosystems’. This experience will be a gastronomic trip through different regions of Peru, tasting different flavours, textures and the unique techniques of Peruvian cuisine.
Day 3 will be spent travelling to Cusco. A transfer, flight, and another transfer will take you across Peru to your hotel. The flight is the responsibility of the client.
Day 4 is a day to explore the culture in Sacred Valley. You have a free morning and afternoon, with an Andean ceremony at night. A traditional Andean ceremony, this offering pays homage to the Pachamama (Mother Earth) who is revered in Andean traditions. They express thankfulness using a plethora of Andean elements while learning about the uses and traditions of the Andean people. A series of activities like coca leaf reading, meditation or yoga can complement this activity. At the end of the day, you will return to your hotel for one more night.
Pick up and transfer to Moray, which is an area famous for its embedded amphitheatre, formed by four circular terraces. Evidence seems to suggest that Moray was an important centre of Inca agricultural research on crops. Then continue the visit to Maras. Its main attraction, apart from its church that dates from the colonial period, are the salt mines located near the town which captivate sightseers and in particular, photographers.
Next, continue your tour by visiting Ollantaytambo, this prehistoric fort majestically dominates the valley. Take advantage of lunch at Mill Restaurant. The restaurant’s architecture was designed so that the building merges with the nature of the location, respecting the balance, colours, ecology, and the surrounding communities of the site. All the water used at this restaurant is responsibly recycled.
If you have ever dreamed of travelling through the Peruvian Andes on a train modelled from the same Pullman cars of the 1920s, then the Belmond Hiram Bingham train makes this possible, and will turn your honeymoon in Peru from an already magical journey into an unforgettable experience.
You will experience a personalised service that takes care of every last detail of your journey. Enjoy the elegant dining car, the bar car, and the observatory where you can take in the unmatched scenery in the open air, all while sipping on a traditional Peruvian cocktail and listening to live, local music to the beat of the Peruvian cajón and tambourines. This train will take you to Machu Picchu for midday.
Day 7 begins with a tour of Machu Picchu. Machu Picchu was only re-discovered in 1911 by the explorer Hiram Bingham, and this citadel is considered to be one of the most extraordinary examples of landscape architecture in the world. It consists of two main areas, one agricultural, formed mainly by mountains and food stores, and the other urban, which is noted for its sacred zone with its temples, squares and royal tombs. The stairways and canals carved out of stone are recurrent throughout this remarkable archaeological site.
Then take a trip up to Wayna Picchu, a mountain located at the Machu Picchu citadel. It rises over Machu Picchu and divides it into two sections and it is possible to hike to the summit for a completely different and even more spectacular view of the Inca wonder. Finally, take the Hiram Bingham Train back to Poroy and return to your hotel via private transfer.
Day 8 is your penultimate day and will be spent in Cusco. Enjoy a private tour of the city and its surroundings, exploring the beautiful sites and the ancient history which it is famous for. Then, for your final night, enjoy a delicious dinner at Map Cafe. The location of the restaurant alone makes it worth a visit – first you have to enter the Museo de Arte Precolombino, and inside the museum, you will enter a smaller area made of glass and steel where dinner will be served. Spend your final night in Lima.
The final day is left free to arrange your return journey and a private journey will take you to the airport. The domestic and international flights are not included in the price of the trip.
