Dolphin Island is located just off the shore from the tip of Viti Levu, Fiji. After arriving at Nadi International Airport guests are privately transferred by road to Rakiraki. This trip takes roughly 2.5 hours and ends upon arrival at Ellington Wharf where a boat will be waiting to take you on a short 20 minute voyage to the one and only Dolphin Island. For those who want to travel in style a seaplane and helicopter transfer are also available, however the prices aren’t included in rates.
After arriving all guests can relax and feel immersed with the sheer beauty of the land. Being surrounded by crystal clear azure waters, the island offers unspent panoramic ocean views. With beaches encompassing the island there’s always the opportunity for guests to get some sand between their toes whilst enjoying a coastal walk.

Dolphin Island contains just four luxurious guest suites, situated in pairs either side of the main bure pavilion. Each suite contains a luxurious king-sized bed fit with pure cotton bed linen and feather pillows to ensure the best night sleep for all. The room is also furnished with a desk and comfortable seating area which sits on a solid timber floor. The suite offers a generous dressing room for couples to store and try on all their holiday attire, keeping clothes out the way and the room tidy.
The bures en suite is nothing short of perfection. Boasting stone floor tiles, a free standing bath, indoor and outdoor showers all adorned by beautifully crafted shell and coral mirrors. It is truly a bathroom that fits the needs of all guests. To allow for the Fijian heat each suite is fit with air conditioning, ceiling fans and open wooden shutters (containing insect proofing) to ensure guests are comfortable at all times.
For those guests who are looking for a more romantic stay, the hilltop sleep-out is an utterly divine experience for couples to enjoy an intimate setting for their island stay. Perfectly mixing rustic and refined decor to fit with the thatched open air bedroom, the hilltop faces the sea and allows guests to enjoy the morning’s golden sun rays. The sleep-out bure is lit by lanterns and candles, keeping with the natural and rustic theme whilst upholding the romantic setting for all loved up couples. Even with the traditional style of the hilltop, Dawn and her team know the importance of modern-day luxuries so guests staying at the sleep-out can relax knowing they are able to use a bathroom fit with a shower and toilet.
When staying on Dolphin Island guests can enjoy all meals wherever they please. Fancy having breakfast on the beach as the warm Fijian sun rises over the horizon. Or tuck into a delicious lunch sat on a daybed around the sparkling infinity pool. Finally end your day with an intimate starlit dinner surrounded by lanterns on the floating pontoon. Wherever guests choose to dine they can expect perfectly prepared delicious meals that feature fresh local produce, showcasing the amazing flavours of Fijian cuisine.
The dishes are specially prepared with each guests preferences in mind. Each day one of the local fisherman will return to port with their fresh catch, here guests are encouraged to pick what fish and seafood they would like to eat later that day. By keeping it so fresh, Dawn can ensure all flavours are as delicious as possible. This combined with the carefully selected fresh produce she collects from the local market, guests will be blown away with the quality of each meal.
Before leaving the island it is tradition to enjoy an incredible lovo feast. This is where many small parcels of food are lovingly prepared, wrapped in banana leaves and cooked over hot stones under the earth. This traditional cooking style slowly cooks the food for several hours, so when the food is ready and served it is beautifully tender and the natural oils from the leaf has kissed the meat leaving it fragrant and delicious.
Surrounding Dolphin Private Island are the crystal clear Bligh Waters. Offering visitors the chance to experience world-class diving sites, the pristine waters are abundant with vibrant marine life including colourful soft coral and large schools of fish. To witness such quality and variety of sea creatures is truly something all guests of the island need to experience. Divers can observe the beauty and diversity of the waters due to the warmth and extremely high visibility which makes for an unforgettable underwater paradise.
There are four reef systems with 25 dive sites that are readily accessible by boat. The boat trips to get to the sites range from 20 minutes to Hailstone Reef, to just under an hour to the Vatu-i-Ra Passage.
For beginners the dive sites of Rakiraki are the perfect introduction to the underwater kingdom and is a relaxing yet enthralling first taste of the spectacular marine life. However to experience some of Fiji’s top diving spots the Vatu-i-Ra Passage in the Bligh water boasts much deeper, more exposed dive sites for guests to explore rarer coral and a larger abundance of exotic sea creatures.
Other diving spots that are worthy of note include Black Magic Mountain, Mary’s Maytag, Pandora’s Box and Pot Luck.
For those guests who like to keep their head above water, Dolphin Private Island provides sea kayaks. The island itself is within a short distance of many other nearby islands which are incredibly enjoyable to explore. With the abundance of fish that live within the waters of Dolphin Private Island, guests have the opportunity to partake in fishing trips. Hand-line fishing takes guests out by private boat to sheltered reefs in hopes to catch some magnificent sea trout, coral cod and snapper. Or maybe guests fancy a more extensive trip to the outer reefs on a trawling trip. Here you can find coral cod, trevally, tuna, barracuda, walu and mahi-mahi. No matter what trip is chosen, Dolphin island will provide all gear and equipment as well as tasty refreshments.
When visiting Dolphin Private Island guests can feel like they have arrived in a secluded paradise, however it is important to remember that the island is off the coast of an incredible country full of rich culture and beautiful traditions. Because of this Dolphin Island offers guests the chance to adventure inland to witness all the wonderful sights that Fiji has to offer.
After a short boat trip to the coastal province of Rakiraki, guests will be driven half an hour to a small inland village where they will receive the warmest of welcomes by locals. This is done in the traditional way of a Kava ceremony, which includes raised voices in harmonious song accompanied by dancing. After this the villagers will escort the guests on a short tour of the area and their home, then on a 15 minute walk or horse ride to the nearby waterfall. The stunning waterfall gently cascades 20 feet down into a naturally formed heart-shaped plunge pool.
Guests can also experience Fiji through a guided tour of the Suncoast. This includes a village tour where all the sights, sounds and smells can immerse them in the local way of life. A visit to the famed Church of the Black Christ gives an insight into the religious practices of the area. Guests can also visit the sugar mill and the tomb of the last cannibal chief Udreudre, which allows visitors to understand the history of Rakiraki.

They also provide a babysitting service should it be required, to allow parents to have a day/night of intimacy.
