Negombo itself hosts a number of cultural and historical sites, but it is also conveniently located between two of Sri Lanka’s capitals. The current capital of Colombo is found just half an hour away, and is the urban heart of the island, complete with the hustle and bustle of a cosmopolitan city. Dambadeniya, on the other hand, is an ancient capital located further east from, with a ruined palace alongside other relics left behind as its legacy.
Produce grown from the organic garden at Jetwing Lagoon includes vegetables, fruits and herbs, all of which are used in the hotel kitchens to prepare exquisite meals. The garden is irrigated from a treated waterline from the wastewater treatment plant on site, while diluted slurry from the biogas digester is used as an organic fertiliser. For improved water efficiency, the crops are drop irrigated, while selected varieties of herbs are also grown in hydroponic systems. Just down the road, The Orchid Nursery at Jetwing Beach is not only a beautiful sight, but it eliminates the need for store-bought decorative flowers across the properties.
Jetwing Lagoon is the first institute in Sri Lanka to feature 100% LED lighting. Used across the property including the garden and swimming pool, LED bulbs are used as they are more energy efficient. In addition, the hotel also features two roof-mounted solar photovoltaic systems. The off-grid system provides all the electricity needed for lighting the hotel, as well as for the hot water circulation. Jetwing Lagoon also established the first vapour absorption chiller (VAC) in a Sri Lankan hotel. Sustainably operated via the steam generated from the onsite biomass boiler, the VAC provides air-conditioning for the entire property. It is worth mentioning that the VAC consumes only 7kW of electricity, compared to approximately 88kW used by a conventional chiller of equal capacity.
The central hot water system of the hotel operates completely on renewable energy! With fifty flat-plate solar panels, the system is able to provide all the hot water required for hotel operations between 9am and 4pm, while steam from the biomass boiler generates hot water during the night.
Jetwing Lagoon is child friendly, with a great number of water sports and activities available for families to enjoy
