Spa & Wellness

Baani Spa brings together experiences inspired by the Epicurean lifestyle philosophy and Maldivian island spirit to give guests both self-care and a chance to recalibrate. Holistic remedies are available and are built off of mindfulness, nutrition, nature and movement. The spa has its own steam rooms, hair and beauty salon, a gym and four over-the-water treatment rooms, each with an ocean view. The yoga sound room is perfect for meditation and the food on offer completes the wellness experience, offering raw cuisine and fresh juices.

Plastic Reduction initiative

Water is offered to guests at the resort in glass bottles opposed to single-use plastic bottles. The glass bottles are offered via the resort’s very own desalination water plant. All bottles are sterilised before ultimately being reused. This not only reduces the contribution to micro plastics in the delicate ecosystem but also lowers transportation miles. Kagi has made the pledge to not purchase plastic bottles completely and is instead only allowing glass or aluminium alternatives.

Food Sustainability

Kagi Maldives is home to a state-of-the-art composting machine, allowing the resort to recycle 60% of the organic waste that is produced from the many kitchens and restaurants. Compost is spread back to the local vegetable garden where the resort grows their own vegetables and herbs. Locally grown food allows the resort to not be contributing to additional air miles of food transportation. Local fishermen supply the seafood and fish for the resort and their techniques are some of the most sustainable methods to fish; pole fishing and line fishing. This avoids bycatch getting caught in the process.

Education

Sustainability is taught to all team members at the resort and covers topics such as protecting coral reefs, endangered species, recycling and also provides training on how to help turtles that have become entangled in ghost nets. The team also participates in campaigns such as Earth Day and World Oceans Day to further highlight the impact of their work and why these delicate ecosystems must be protected.

Natural Materials

The architecture of the resort has been built using as many natural resources as possible. It allows the residents to get optimal use of the natural conditions whilst not obstructing the natural beauty of the island itself. Emissions are further saved with the use of LED lights throughout the entire resort, saving 742kg in emissions every single day.

House Reef and Coral Protection

The resort has established its very own coral nursery and with the assistance of Euro-Divers they are monitoring the environment and growing 15 coral fragments to be planted onto the reef in the future. Coral is endangered due to severe bleaching caused by global warming. By planting coral the resort is able to rebuild the island’s natural resources.

Heat Recovery System

Hot water requirements at the resort are met using a high-efficiency heat recovery system. Waste heat that is produced by generators is converted into electrical energy, allowing the guests to have hot showers that do not have an impact on the environment. This lowers emissions by 804kg every day.

Parley for the Oceans and Beach Clean-ups

The resort is in partnership with the Maldives’’ branch of Parley for the Oceans. They advocate against the use of single-use plastics and encourage proper disposal of plastic to avoid it reaching the ocean. Kagi has therefore redesigned their standard to reduce waste as well as participates in beach clean-ups. The resort also holds an annual clean-up that team members and guests can participate in. Monthly clean-ups are scheduled.

Manta Ray Protection

Manta Rays are common all year-round in the Maldives and the resort is a contributor to their research and conservation. During Manta trips experienced guides will detail important information to guests, teaching them about the important conservation work as well as teaching them how to calmly approach the creatures to swing alongside them.

The resort welcomes guests of age 12 or over
