These key ideas are crucial to the running of La Folie Lodge, and the staff truly embrace a multitude of practices to ensure that the lodge is as sustainable as possible.
La Folie Lodge is dedicated to ensuring that the local community is fully supported. This has been the goal for La Folie Lodge from the beginning, as they entrusted local people to construct the facilities for the lodge, this project also brought electricity to the Champasak Province. The lodge has participated in numerous community projects including school renovations and roadworks to help the local community excel. Following serious weather incidents over the years, La Folie Lodge has provided support and funding to the local population so that the Province could recover quickly from the mass destruction.
La Folie Lodge is truly dedicated to ensuring they instil eco-friendly practices that not only protect the environment, but also restore it. The lodge has significantly reduced the amount of plastic it uses in its daily runnings, in order to reduce the impact of plastic waste on the island. Also, La Folie Lodge places a huge emphasis on ensuring that the island is kept clean, they do this by communicating with local villages and schools, and educating both children and adults on the impact of waste on the environment. Furthermore, the Lodge ensures that the embankment of the Mekong River is protected, by planting specialised bushes that prevent erosion of the bank, and therefore reduces floods in the local area.
