About 5km west of the city of Kandy are the royal Peradeniya Botanical Gardens. Renowned for its collection of orchids, among 4000 other species of plant, these gardens are a sight to behold. Dating back as far as 1371 and covering 147 acres, there is plenty of flora and fable to get stuck into. Once reserved only for Kandyan royalty, this spectacle is now open to the public, so swan down the avenue of royal palm trees and enjoy a picnic under the giant Javan fig tree on the great lawn.
Sri Dalada Maligawa, more commonly known as The Temple of the Tooth, is located in the heart of Kandy. It is one of most revered temples in the country, attracting worshippers and other visitors from around the world. A UNESCO World Heritage Site, Sri Dalada Maligawa is known for holding a tooth relic from Lord Buddha, which is paraded through the streets of Kandy in a grand parade known as ‘Esala Perahera’ during the months of July and August.
An enchanting forest reserve, Udawatta Kele Sanctuary is steeped in rich history with tales of long ago whispered through the rustling leaves. Nestled near the Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic, it is a rich storehouse of endemic flora and numerous bird species. Once a forbidden forest strictly reserved for royalty, this sanctuary is one of the main tourist attractions in Kandy for nature lovers; explore ancient pathways lit by sunlight, visit sheltered Buddhist monasteries & in the stillness, enjoy the soft calling of birds.

OZO Kandy are in partnership with NetWwater (Network of Women Water Professionals), a registered organisation of women volunteers devoted to promoting the Dublin-Rio principles of holistic water management, aiming to provide a Rain Water Harvesting system (RWH) each year to conserve natural water resource for rural schools enabling them to have access to clean water for better hygiene and sanitation. Additionally, in 2017, both OZO Kandy and OZO Colombo contributed LKR 200,000 (approx. $1,430) to install the first RWH for Balana Kanishta Vidyalaya School in Kandy.
