Community Outreach

Sabuk Lodge is a small-owner operated accommodation that is part of New African Territories. All of the camps and lodges that form New African Territories train and employ local people from the surrounding communities to where they operate. This provides a source of income for local people and benefits them and the people close to them.

Sabuk Lodge’s owner, Verity Williams also helps the local community by running projects to help women generate an income to support their families such as making elephant-dung paper, beading and bee-keeping. In addition, Verity Williams has also funded a number of wells that provide the local people with clean water, and a medical dispensary.

Lobarishereki Boarding School

Sabuk Lodge funded the construction of a dormitory that houses 60 girls for the local Lobarishereki Primary School. In Samburu culture, girls are usually expected to remain home in order to maintain the house and carry out chores. The dormitory means that girls are able to spend more time studying in the evenings and at the weekends, with electricity and without having to spend time walking long distances to get to school.

Sabuk Lodge’s owner, Verity Williams, also supports the Lobarishereki pupils and their teachers by providing teaching materials, computers, furniture, funding for classrooms and kitchens, and wages for teachers.

Conservation Fee

Sabuk Lodge is a small-owner operated accommodation that is part of New African Territories. All of the accommodations that form New African Territories properties are located within private conservancies or protected areas. Sabuk Lodge’s owner, Verity Williams, set up the Nalare Community Wildlife Conservancy to protect the wildlife and habitats around Sabuk Lodge. Guests help to support the conservancy by paying a nightly fee, which goes towards employing game scouts, protecting the animals and sustaining an eco-conscious safari lodge.
