Attitude has always placed Mauritius and Mauritians at the heart of everything. In 2019, they became the first service company in Mauritius to be awarded the ‘Made in Moris’ accolade.
Prioritise ‘local’
Attitude mainly sources its products from Mauritian producers, as they know that it directly benefits the local economy. One example is the Mayaven family, a farming couple who provide two Attitude hotels with hydroponic vegetables using sustainable agricultural methods. This collaboration illustrates a wish to support entrepreneurship and to put the principles of circular economy into practice. Over time, their business has grown, creating new jobs and new sustainable practices.
Support Mauritian young companies
In 2019, Attitude created their own investment company, Otentik Investments Ltd, to strengthen their contribution to local economy. Otentik helps promising Mauritian companies to thrive if they align with Attitude’s criteria, which encompasses eco-responsibility and the creation of long-term jobs. After a period of financial and logistical support, Otentik Investments Ltd recoups its initial investment and uses that recoup to finance two or three new local entrepreneurs a year. One of the first fledgling companies to benefit was Kokodezil, a local and 100% natural cosmetics brand now thriving on its own terms.
Promote craftmanship
The work of local artists is used to decorate Attitude hotels. Despite competitive pricing from the likes of China and Bali, when it comes to furniture, Attitude chooses to use Mauritian carpentry. At Lagoon Attitude, 75% of the furniture is made in Mauritius. Attitude has also created Otentik Bazar, a pop-up market that gives local designers the chance to sell their products at each hotel. Products include baskets, jams, jewellery and handbags made from recycled sails. Attitude takes no commission from the sale of any goods – 95% of the profit is paid directly to the maker and 5% goes to financing environmental actions via the Green Attitude Foundation.
